I honestly don't know we're taking the word of a civilization that didn't see the Spanish coming. Its not exactly like they were subtle.

Geomagnetic reversals are normal and nothing dramatic happens to life on the planet during a reversal. 2012 herp derp liars blew it out of proportion like every other cosmological thing they plucked out of context and misrepresented.
