15 months and still nursing a rant and a question.

posted 12th Dec
He has a mouth full of teeth and my family plus strangers have started giving me smurf about breastfeeding him still.

A few of my favorites:

"He's going to bite your nipple off now is the time to ween"

"It's awkward and inappropriate to nurse your child in front of others cover or not past one year"

And the real kicker

"You're only doing it for you. He is old enough to be perfectly fine to get some independence"

Anyway gotta love it. So now I have a question. LO was nursing 5-6 times a day up until a few days ago. And now he's only nursing 2-4 times a day. How much should a 15 month old be on the boob? I have none of my own experience up until now- nursing a toddler.

DS is a year and I get a lot of the same smurf. A select few of my older family breastfed but that's it so they don't understand. I hate it! So ill definitely be watching this. DS is on the boob a lot. He eats food but a lot of time will refuse food because he wants boob. It aggravates me sometimes.

Your family would love to see me nursing my 3 year old then.

Both of my kids were nursing on a regular schedule still at 15 months old. We dont do cows/an alternative milk at 1 so boob is still their main source of hydration and nutrients.

I started giving him milk a couple of months ago and more regularly recently. Should I- Could I go back to just breastfeeding for hydration? I mean- do you know how I would go back to that? I hasn't been long. I know I still make more than he drinks.

I'm going to grab my LO and a cup of tea be back in 5. I guess better to start now than wait, right? It was confusing for me since less than a week ago he was nursing 2-3 times at night, first thing in the morning, twice during the day and again before bed. None this morning, once during the day and none before bed.

He might be self weaning. The best thing would be to just go with it. If YOU arent ready for him to wean, then you can offer him booby more but dont force it

He still comfort sucks a lot. Not enough to hear him engaged or my milk let down. But a minute or two here and there and playing with my boogie. Like suck, suck smile, suck laugh, climb down. And he had a cold for a couple days. When he nurses like actively, he's on the boobs for 10-20 minutes, even now. I am def. not ready to wean.

I would offer more if you're not ready to wean.. my daughter (2 in 2 days) finally kicked the nipple shield and when we were on it it was 4 times in 24hrs but now she wants to nurse all the time and I think it's cuz I was so excited she weaned off the shield I offered all the time haha!   Might help!

Thank you! First thing this morning I grabbed him out of his bed, cuddled him in a cradle hold straight off and offered him the boo boos as we call it, straight off. He nursed for a good half hour, just enjoying cuddles and then ate breakfast. And was wanting to nurse right before lunch. I did not give him his am cup until after nursing and he wasn't even thirsty   so I'm just going to nurse, nurse, nurse these next few days and see if he even needs extra milk aside from me. I would like to see him nursing a good amount until two and then let him self wean.
