My Birth Story

This is WAY late! But here it is.
August 13th i had a Dr appointment with my high risk ob. We did the routine things urine and bp which was high as usual. Then i was sitting in the recliner doing my NST. Then Dr Grant comes to see me and says "you are going to the hospital today." i was scared. There was protein in my urine. i was only 30 weeks 6 days baby was not ready to come out yet. So i was put on bedrest. i was diagnosed with mild preeclampsia and on strict bedrest in the hospital. my levels were 4,000 mg The IV bp meds they gave me made baby's heart rate drop. so they had to stop trying to lower it. They gave me the two steroid shots that week. the following sunday we did another 24 hour urine. I noticed how swollen my hand and face and legs had become and i was concerned. The next morning i was straightening my hair and putting on makeup because i had an appointment to see my high risk ob dr grant in his office which was all connected to the hospital. the nurse came in and said "you arent going Dr McCoy is coming to talk to you. You are having a c-section TODAY!" i was so scared she was not ready to come out yet. i called my husband we live 40 minutes from my hopsital. He had to make arrangements for our older two kids so he could drive up to be with me. He brought my dad and i could tell my dad was really scared. My husband was very nervous but we were both kinda excited to meet the baby but we were scared she would be sick. They started me on the mag which made me feel really hot and sweaty. At 1pm they finally came and got me for the c-section. At 1:10pm Kimberly Elizabeth was born screaming her apgar score was 8 at 1 minute and 9 at 5 minutes. She weighed only 3 pounds 5 ounces and 17 inches long. she only needed a high flow nasal canula to keep her o2 stats up. I was able to see her for a minute i got to kiss her and then they took her to the NICU. They finished my tubal ligation and sewed me up. I had a lot of trouble seeing and holding my eyes open. My vision was very dark and distorted. i was very weak and tired and in a lot of pain. I was swollen from the waist down. When i finally got out of bed the next day it was the hardest thing i have ever done. i was in the worst pain but i wanted my baby. when i first saw her with all the wires and the oxygen and the IV in her head i just cried. i tried to stroke her cheek but the nurse told me i couldnt touch her like that. it was too much stimulation. that made me cry harder. i hated the nicu. when i would walk in to bring her milk i would stand by her bed and i didnt know who was her nurse i wanted to hold my baby i wanted a chair to sit in. i had to have 2 units of blood so at this point i was feeling better. some nurses were very cold and i didnt like them. i wish they were as caring as my nurses. my husband had to go home and so when we could hold her i asked if he could do kangaroo care with her. the nurse was snotty when she said "we usually save kangaroo care for mom" well my husband was going home and couldnt come back until the next weekend he had to work and we have two other kids to take care of. to make a long story short she spent exactly one month in the nicu before she came home. she has been EBF for almost 4 months now. she also weighs 10 pounds 2 ounces and 21 and 3/4 inches long

Glad she's doing well now despite being born so early.
You had your tubes tied after this c-section, this is something I would also like done after my c-section in May.
How did that go? Did your insurance pay for it? Was your OB totally cool with doing it?

yeah my insurance covered it cuz that means no more babies to cover and my ob def was cool with it especially because i got so sick with this pregnancy. she was baby number 3.

What type of insurance do you have?
This will be my second live birth and I am done having babies. I really hope my OB and insurance will be ok with it. I'm not cut out to have a bunch of babies you know? I had pre-E every pregnancy that went beyong 20 weeks and this pregnancy I've suffered from horrible HG the entire time. This will also be my second c-section and I'm not sure how many of those a person can have.

i have medicaid through my state

I have Blue Cross PPO as my primary and Medi-Cal through the state as a secondary. So we'll see how that goes.
