I think that is what they should do. I just fear them backing down because of backlash from the decent people of the area.

My job is a little different but we have to do home visits to some scary people in some scary neighbourhoods. We always go two up for our protection. I think at the very least there should be more safety considerations for those delivery drivers, such as provided mobile phones, CCTV cameras and having the option to take someone with you.

I feel horrible for those people. It must be terrifying to deliver to places like that. Still if you get a job as a delivery person knowing the areas you will be required to deliver to, then of course you will be asked to deliver there. You get what you signed up for. You can't expect to get paid if your boss expects you to deliver and you refuse.

Quoting Chim Richalds:" For the people that say no, they shouldn't, do you mean the store as a whole shouldn't have to? Or do ... [snip!] ... that an individual driver should be able to decide which deliveries to go on and which deliveries to refuse during their shift?"
See I've often wondered that. When my husband worked for Charter (cable company) they got to use their discretion about what houses to enter and whatnot. And often they could be fired for not doing the job.

I agree! I think having two people go may be a good idea.

Being able to take someone with you or providing extra security should be a necessary precaution provided by the pizza place. Security is a must.

I think this is the same situation. Of course they can choose not to, but they can also be fired for it.

I have a friend that used to deliver in an awful part of town, I don't know how she was so brave about it.

True. When my husband worked for Charter and luckily we lived in Wisconsin when he did, he only had a small area he had to go to and if it was sketchy he could leave.

I don't know how people do it either, I wont even drive towards the wrong part of town, and I just feel awful for people who have to, to make a living/min wage.

I mean in the event of a drive-by (which is what I’m more worried about than anything) its not going to do much, but having two people is often a good deterrence, and it doesn’t have to be to every delivery, only that area or houses that are not known. Even having a mobile phone wouldn’t stop an assault or robbery but you could call immediately for help, take photos or even set up with the boss that you will call them before you enter the driveway and again as you are driving out of the neighbourhood so at least they know you are safe or they can alert someone if you don’t call within a certain time.

There are certain areas here I wouldn't drive to either. Usually I feel safe in my car but not when there's carjacking going on, freaky.

I think that is a great idea! Really thank you! I may comment on the news website with your idea if you don't mind me stealing it?

I hear ya! When I lived in Wisconsin there were areas I steered clear of. But here in the big city it is all so different.
