Marriage and religion D&D

posted 11th Dec
A member said this to me and I wanted others opinions on it
"Marriage in my opinion is a union ordained by God, well before earth was even formed. I also believe that those who dont believe in God, should have a civil union, so that they can have the same rights as those who are in a marriage, but maintain the sacredness of what Marriage should be about. I have nothing against ppl who dont belive in God, however like i said, many ppl including those who get married dont take it seriously anymore. So many ppl say, oh its just a peice of paper, if that is so, then why does it bother so many ppl when ppl like me, say that we dont agree with certain ppl getting married if they dont even value what it stands for and only view it as a peice of paper. Why not allow it to be kept sacred for those of us who view it that way, and fight for rights to have the same rights of a married couple without needing that peice of paper."

Those of you who do not have religion feel that marriage is 'just a piece of paper'? How about those of you that do have religion.

I don't affiliate myself to religion, but I do take marriage seriously and see it as more than 'just a piece of paper'. I believe it to be a sacred union/ceremony that bonds two people who are in love, but I don't think religion necessarily has to be a part of it. It sure isn't going to be to mine.

Marriage does not belong to just Christians.

I'm Christian, and I think whether you call it a marriage or a civil union doesn't matter, they are the same thing. It's stupid when people argue semantics.

Also, marriage has never been only for people who believe in God and/or are Christian. Look at, I don't know, ANY ancient civilization and that is clear. They got married. Even the Greek and Roman gods has spouses. And to say that marriage was ordained by God before the earth was even formed makes no sense. The Bible doesn't say "In the beginning there was nothing and marriage." Some people...

I think that statement is ridiculous. Religious people do not automatically have a more genuine or meaningful marriage because of God. My marriage is absolutely more than a piece of paper. My grandfather was ordained and married us at a park downtown in our city, with a ceremony that had absolutely nothing to do with God or religion.

My husband and I are atheists and married.

I can't even begin to say how stupid that quote was.

We don't believe in god or follow religion but we are married. I don't think you need to believe in god to treasure and respect the insitution marriage. And I think every person I the world should have the right to marry, not just common law or civil union, marriage.

I am the one that said this, and to certain faiths, yes it does say that. like mine   not all faiths are the same or believe in the same thing. In our faith we dont beelieve that there was just nothing before we came to earth.

I have religion, it's just not Christianity... you need another option in your poll. The whole poll feels like it's "Are you atheist and did you marry or are you Christian and did you marry?"

Don't you know that means you don't love each other as much as religious couples do?

Some of these holy rollers have their heads so far up their own asses, its just remarkable. "You're not as married as we are, call it something else."

Maybe if the person who said this had any skills other than being a brood mare, she wouldn't put so much time into comparing her marriage to every one damn else's.

So why do you think that YOUR faith should be the law? I hate to tell you this but you're really not SO special that only people LIKE YOU should be allowed to call their relationship a marriage.

So maybe you're the one that should call YOUR marriage something else. What a nitpicky and idiotic thing to say.
