Is it wrong

posted 11th Dec
to try to keep your SO from smoking in the garage?

I just found out that some of our son's stuff was still in the garage not the attic and its frustrating me because I was going to use that stuff for the next baby...His toddler bed frame is sealed wood so thats not that bad right?
Most of everything he owns is in our house including the mattress

He has other people come over every week and they smoke with the door shut and I can smell it in the house when they leave.

Its making me uncomfortable....3rd hand smoke is not okay with me

I dont want to seem like a tyrant tho....blahh

Is it his home too? Does he help pay the bills? If he does then yes it's wrong, he needs a place to go and you should be thankful he isn't doing it in the house.

I don't think it's wrong. It's still part of the house. If you don't want your things to be smoky, especially your baby things, he should understand that.

Just point out that the things are in there can be damaged by smoke and that you don't mind him smoking in there but can he please help you move the stuff to the attic so it doesn't get damaged. Being passive about it won't solve your problems so the best thing to do is just confront him in a polite manner

I dont care if its his house or not, its your life and the life of your kids, which is way more important than his addiction, were not talking about something like what clothes he can wear or what show he can watch, smoking is dangerous, it kills, and 3rd hand smoke is just as dangerous as well. So NO its not wrong to insist he take it outside, where it will not filter into the house and be potentially harmfull to you or your kids.

Yeah its cigarettes...nasty menthol cigarettes....if he was smoking weed or natural tobacco it wouldn't bother me as much...but those chemicals get everywhere

It filters into to the house!! You mean like when they open the door to come inside right?

I wouldn't keep nice baby stuff in a garage. Just move it

I'd just ask him to smoke outside. Why's he need to be in a room to smoke? Meh. I don't mind being asked to smoke outside.

I think asking him to help you move the things into the attic is a good idea. Also, I'd ask him to just crack the garage door so that it won't go into the house.
I know how cold it is, so I can understand not wanting to be outside, but he should at least crack the garage door.

Has he said anything about wanting to quit? I think you said at one point that he did want to. Maybe offer to help him out.
If he needs another stress reliever maybe a good Christmas present would be a gym membership?
