How to nurse in public

posted 11th Dec
This post is for all the new moms out there that are unsure of how to discreetly nurse their baby in public!
When I had my first baby I was determined to breastfeed, but I figured that whenever anyone was around I would just nurse her in another room, or with a blanket over my shoulder. If you've ever nursed a baby with a blanket over their head and your shoulder then you know.. It can get really hot under there, and more often then not, baby doesn't like it.
Going into another room is fine, but often times that isn't an option.. for example, at a restaurant you have very few options when baby gets hungry. You could nurse in the bathroom... but you would most likely have to sit on a toilet. and I will admit, I have sat (fully clothed) on the toilet while I nursed my baby. Its not very comfortable... at all
sometimes restaurants will put a chair in the bathroom.. depends on how fancy it is.
another option is to nurse in the car, also not that desirable just because that means leaving the table to go outside and sit in the car am cramped (and probably hungry)
and the last option is to just nurse at the table. Hey, everyone else is eating there... what's the harm if baby is too?
But let's face it, no one wants to see your boobs while they're eating! So how does one nurse discretely when there's tons of excitement and no where to be comfortable?
Its actuary very simple.. If you wear 2 separate shirts, one on top the other, you can just pull the top shirt up when baby is hungry. then position the bottom of the shirt so it covers your breasts from anyone's view when baby is latching on. The bottom of the shirt will cover the top of your breasts and the under shirt will keep your stomach and back covered.
I discreetly nurse everywhere I go! I've breastfed at the park, at the zoo, the mall, at big family reunions, and even in a court room! I've heard friends say "Melony's one of the few people I know that will be nursing her baby right in front of you and you don't even notice that's what she's doing."

With my first baby I did my best to make sure no one saw my breasts when baby nursed.. but once my second baby was born I didn't even care anymore. I will nurse in public places without a second thought. Breastfeeding is the most natural thing a woman can do... that's the only purpose for breasts!
Only in America has breasts become something so strictly sexual... You see photos in magazines of women with their cleavage hanging out and its acceptable. But to see a flash of mommy's nipple before baby latches on is made out to be gross! Its absurd that our society has become this way...

Lol my cousin whipped her boob out at a funeral and nursed her dd. I laughed but it was a little strange since her whole boob was hanging out.

I feel like this method is a pretty obvious idea. I don't like how my stomach looks so I always wear two shirt. A nursing cami or regular cami underneath a regular shirt.

Eh.

I prefer to just wear low-cut shirts and pull my breast out the top and stick it in my baby's mouth. I have been doing it so long that I just don't really care about/have given up being discreet anymore.

That is what I did as well.

I did the same. I'm feeding my child, not inviting people to a show. I could seriously care less if anyone is offended. I'm not the creepy one for nursing, YOU'RE the creepy one for staring.

I did that a few times but I HATE stretching out my shirts. I much prefer the two shirts method or wearing a top with buttons so I can just unbutton and let her have at it! Lol
I still get funny looks sometimes but I think it's more because my daughter is almost two and people don't know about extended breastfeeding.

It's easier. I don't really have the energy to worry about it. Plus I don't like exposing my entire belly or fussing with two shirts too much or I feel like it draws more attention than just exposing breast. People are going to know what you're doing whether you cover up, try and be discreet or just whip it out anyway, so really - I don't see the point lol.

Knowing what you're doing, and seeing whats going on are two completely different things lol.

The whole point of the 2 shirts thing is to eliminate contraptions like this and still be discreet.

I don't really think so. You put the thought into people's head, I'm sure they are making mental images of you nursing anyway - that is if they even care. I have had people give me weird looks but I don't generally care since they are people I will likely never see again in my life. Or if they are people I will see again - chances are they are my friends or family and won't care how I choose to feed my baby anyway.
