6 month old still will not nap longer than 1/2 hr!

posted 11th Dec
My 6 month old is still not taking regular naps or longer than 30-45 min. Totaling 2 hrs a day. I've tried everything. She fights it so bad, and def is tired during the day. She's very well mannered so she doesn't get all that grumpy. Though it means a very early bed time & a lot of night waking :/

Any advise? Thank you!!

Other than making sure you put her down at the first sign of being sleepy, I've got no advice.
My son was like this up until he was 7 months old. Then magically one day he took a 3 hour afternoon nap. He's been like this ever since. At 8 months, he now takes a short 30-45 min nap in the morning, and then a 2.5-3 hour afternoon nap..

I can only hope for this, thanks!

My 6 month old is exactly the same way. She will tak 4 or 5 half hour naps. She goes to bed at 8 and gets up at 7. She was getting up in the night but them her doc said she doesn't need to eat in te middle if the night anymore. So it took me a good solid week if rocking her back to sleep with just a pacifier and taking like and hour or two to put her back to sleep. But after a week she started sleeping all night.

Well that's great she's sleeping all night. My LO is not! She's up constantly wanting to rock & nurse & rock & nurse-I know she doesn't need to eat she just wants me to hold her, and it's been really rough. Thinking of what to do-I've tried the no cry sleep solution...but she also has a binky issue...

How many times does she eat a night? Nutritionally, it's not until 9 months that they don't need to eat during the night. Around 6 months is still completely normal and healthy to eat once a night. If you nurse her back to sleep every time she wakes up, she is probably associating sleeping with eating- meaning she won't sleep without being nursed. When she wakes up, instead of nursing her, just try rocking and singing to her. We had the same issue with my son. He woke up every 45 minutes until like 6.5 months. Instead of nursing him back to sleep, I would just rock him until he fell back asleep, and nurse him once a night. It helped a lot to have DH get up and rock him back to sleep too, because then he didn't smell my milk. After a week or two of that, he started just waking up the one time to eat.

My pedi told me this at our 8 month check up (we did the 9 month early) but I have a hard time just not feeding her. How do you know she's not just hungry? I'd love for her to sleep through the night but I feel like she wouldn't be waking up if she wasn't hungry (even though the pedi said it's habit). How do you get past that??

I just started rocking her back to sleep without the bottle. She was only getting up once. I quit nursing her at 51/2 months. I didn't want to but she would throw a fit. it only took me a week if doing this and then she started sleeping all night from 8 to 7. She realized she didn't need the bottle so she didn't wake up

Can you notice the difference in her cries? My son's cries are super different when he wakes up hungry vs him just waking up.
If you can't notice a difference, just try rocking her for 5 minutes or so. If she is still crying, then feed her. Like I said in a PP, they nutritionally could need to eat at least once per night until 9 months.

Thanks! Yeah I do believe she's associated it-the last few nights she has been nursing once & going back to sleep-so hopefully that's the new norm!

With every other cry I can but not at night lol I''m barely awake to be honest because I love sleep and she use to sleep through the night but when she started teething she started waking up again so I never really had to do the wake up every couple hours thing until recently :/

Yeah she's already formula fed so I feel that works in my favor. I'll try that tonight, thanks
