This is true too, though. In some parts of the world you cant go out at noon time because the heat will kill you. We say we cant stand the heat but there are desert dwellers who live without electricity, and then the people who live in igloos. I really don't want to have to deal with either lol.

Anyway we have seeds to grow and herbs, guns, and bows n arrows to hunt with etc. not much more than that.!

I'm with you. I guess it's all in what you're used to.

If I could get to where I need to go, I'd survive. But I imagine getting out of this city would be hard to do with people freaking out.

Yes! I think when reality sets in pandamonium would happen. I mean, I don't know how anyone would know it's a 'world wide black out' considering nothing of communication would work...we would all just think its only our city for a short time.

This would be my problem. NYC would turn into a war zone.

Yes, it totally would.

I think most of NYS would, though. hahahaha

We probably would do fine. We have basic survival necessities and a good skill set, plus a lot of land in an area that's actually very good for long-term survival.

Most of my older kids can hunt, as can I. When ammo runs out, my oldest is a skilled archer and is teaching the younger girls, and traps are easy enough to build. We have a good bit of food canned, and some livestock for meat, milk and eggs. Living surrounded by literally hundreds of thousands of acres of forest means shelter would never be a problem. DH and the kids built a miniature log cabin as a playhouse 2 years ago so we have the basic skill set, scaling up would take practice but would be quite do-able.

We know the plants, the animals, and the environment we live in very well and can use it for anything from shelter, protection, food, clean water, and fun. We don't stockpile weapons or build bunkers or anything, though. Our survival strategy would be to use the environment and retreat into it instead of trying to fight.

Hahaha. This (sadly) makes me laugh. I remember the earthquake in Japan a year or two ago, no rioting what so ever, no one looting, the young helping and putting the elderly before themselves.... what is wrong with the Western world?

As for the OP, I think we would do fine. Cold in the winter but I'm sure installing a wood stove would be no problem, we have smurf loads of wood around us. We have a lot of land now and could grow food and raise animals, which we will be spring time.

One of my greatest memories was the black out back in (maybe) 2003 or 04. My kids were little and much of Ontario and NY lost power for days. It was amazing! Everyone was out socializing. Stores used candles. The oddest feeling walking through a grocery store that is most empty. No noisy tv's and smurf. People driving so polity. I almost wish it would happen again.

Get my dad. He knows how to live off of the land. He'd show me all the tricks he knows...lol

My brother had electricity but no heat other than his wood stove due to Sandy. He had no hot water. He was miserable and the whole family was miserable. Who wants to cook and clean and shower when there is no hot water.
If this happened, there would be almost no restaurants. Everyone would have to cook and clean and manage with very little hot water.
My nails would be a MESS!

LOL

My nails are already a mess, so no worries here!   Lol

For Dh and I, surviving a worldwide blackout wouldn't be too much of a problem. We both know how to hunt and live off the land. We have great survival skills, which we are teaching to our children. We have plenty of non-perishable food stocked up(enough for a year and a bit), and plenty of water. Dh is skilled with ranged weapons and hand to hand combat, and I am skilled with swords and staves, as well as hand to hand combat(Ju jitsu...though I am probably a bit rusty, as I haven't had to use it. I've also learned a few things from my uncles and dad to protect myself from perverts. lol). During the winter months, it will be rough, but this is weather that we are used to, so it won't be too much of a problem...especially if we build an igloo! Those things get nice and toasty inside if built correctly.

Uncle Ted would not be happy that you are worried about your nails. That's a dude I would want to go through a survival situation with!
