Embarressed to even have to ask!

posted 11th Dec
Okay I still owe the hospital here $250.00 from having my son. Money is super tight.

Well obviously I'm due soon, and will owe another $250 for this baby. Now could they turn me away from having this baby because I owe $250 already or could they bill me for this co-pay too? I was really hoping to pay both off with taxes....

A hospital CAN NOT refuse to treat you no matter how much you owe. A doctor's office can, but a hospital cant.

No, but I'm kind of surprised they haven't sent it to collections.

They shouldn't be able to turn you away
They'll probably just end up billing you with your total balance or ask for it to get sent

Private hospitals can turn you away but a public hospital can not turn you away! We have a private one here (catholic) and they will turn you away unless you pay!

If it is with a collections agency how would I know. I did call to see the balance I owed and it did show $250 so does that mean its still with the hospital?

I was in hopes to pay the hospital a total of 500 when my taxes come in....

You probably would have gotten something in the mail or a phone call by now, had it been sent to collections.

You would have gotten a letter. My hospital takes forever to send them. Thank god! I need to set up arrangements, I'm paying my doctor $50 a visit though so it's kinda urrggggg.

If you are that short on money, is there not a charity program that you could apply for? Alot of hospitals have these for low income people. I assume that with the amount of time from your last birth to this one, you don't have alot extra since its still not paid. I would call and ask the billing department if they have a program like this if you havent already.

Normally those kind of things shouldn't go to a collection agency, they're more likely to be in the hospital billing where ever you delivered your first child at

They sent my daughters delivery to collections after about 1.5-2 years after i had her. I received a lettee in the mail stating the hospital had turned it over to whateer the name of the place was and then i would receive an "attempt to collect" notice from the collections place every 5-6 months until it was paid off.

Wow I've never heard of that happening where medical billing can be sent over to a collection agency
