Moms with 4 or more kids...

posted 11th Dec
What was it like going from having 3 to having 4? I'll be having my 3rd in about 12 weeks. DH and I had previously decided that 3 would be it for us, but lately we both seem to be more open to the possibility that somewhere down the road we might add a 4th. (i'm only 24 so I have plenty of time) Of course we know that financially it adds another child to feed, clothe (sp), diaper, etc. But we are stable with our own home and my DH has a great job, and I would most likely finish my teaching degree before we decide to add to our family. So other than financially, how did it change things for you?

We are on our 6th and really not much more changed. You have the obvious financial ramifications of adding another child, but routine wise after adding the 3rd it really wasn't that bad. The other babies just kind of fit in and we incorporated them into the current routine. My first two are older so that does help, but my little ones are almost 4, 3 and 2.

wow I know I couldnt handle 6. I come from a blended family and there were 6 of us. But I think that 4 might be a good number. When you got to the 4th child did you ever feel more overwhelmed, or like you should have stopped at 3? Of course you love all of your children, but I hope you can understand what I'm asking. I have a almost 7 year old, a 1 year old (a week from today), and I will have a newborn in march.

Watching.
I'm due in about 10 weeks with our fourth child and often wonder the same thing. For me, going from 2 to 3 was the hardest transition so far so I'm pretty nervous about adding a fourth.

From what everyone has told me, anything after three is just another "mouth to feed" and very easy to adjust to.

Sometimes I wish I would've stopped at 2. Its not so bad in the beginning when the youngest is little but around the time my son turn 13 months is when is started to get hard...All he and my 2 year old do is fight and cry..

People have told me that too about going from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. How old are your children?

Sometimes I wish I stopped at two also
I had a boy and a girl who were the perfect age apart. Our 5 passenger car and 3 bedroom house worked perfectly. We had time to spend with each child separately... things were just easier. I'm very excited and in love with all 3 (soon to be 4) of my children, don't regret them at all so please, no one take that as me being ungrateful, just sharing some feelings.

5, 3 1/2 and 17 months.
When I was pregnant with my second everyone "warned" me how different life would be, how it would be crazy and hectic...but it just wasn't like that for us. My second just "fit in" right from the start and sure, it was different, but not at all in a bad way. My son was 18 months and still in diapers, it really was just another "baby" and our schedule pretty much remained the same. When my third was born, all hell broke loose. She was a tough baby and had terrible colic so that most likely played a part, but even as a whole, it was a rough transition. My husband and I were out numbered and there was always a baby "left out" ...it took about 4 months to get into a comfortable, steady routine for us. Now, it's just our day to day life and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, except for the fourth baby coming soon lol

I don't think your coming off wrong. There's a lot of parents that wished they would've had one or 2 instead of 3 or 4. I told my friend, in the next life I am becoming a Nun. Better safe then sorry. I'm too fertile. I love my kids regardless, and wouldn't change a thing. It just gets overwhelming at times. But its to be expected I guess with so many kids.

Me too!

I'm looking into getting my tubes tied during this c-section. My husband is also looking into a vasectomy. We're both so young and know we'd have more, even on "accident" so we need to do something a little more permanent. I'm lucky that we didn't have trouble getting pregnant but on the other hand, being so fertile has it's downsides also.

Good luck to you
