Percocet & breastfeeding. Need advice! Help!

posted 11th Dec
I was hospitalized yesterday for a very nasty bladder infection that almost made its way to my kidney's. I was also so sick that one of the lymph nodes in my breast got swollen (didn't even know you could have lymph nodes in your breast) & I've also had this awful, awful migraine headache for the last week that comes and goes multiple times a day. The doctor said it might be some hormones left over from my pregnancy & the fact that I'm breastfeeding. They aren't too sure though. More follow up's will be needed. Regardless, they prescribed me Percocet for the pain. I've been breastfeeding my LO since birth & she is very, very attached to my breasts. I usually can't put her to bed without nursing. She gets fussy if she doesn't get her boob, she comfort feeds etc. I'm concerned about me breastfeeding. Is it time to just wean her? I'd hate to do that. I love nursing her but I'm concerned for her health while taking percocet's. I asked the doctor if it was okay to nurse her while on them & he said he wouldn't really recommend it. But then he told me, "We'll honestly, it just makes them sleepy & a little drowsy. It's not a big deal." So I'm just very confused. I have heard of some mothers nursing while on Percocet & many said it that they're doctors said it was okay. I keep getting mixed answers. I was trying to just take Tylenol for the pain but the acetaminophen does absolute nothing for the pain. My migraines are awful, awful, awful. What should I do? Continue to breastfeed? Wean? ?????!!!! My daughter is 10 months, 28 inches long & 15 pounds BTW. So she's a little a munchkin.

Percocet is safe to breast feed on as long as its not abused. I hope you feel better soon.

percocet is fine with breast feeding - c-section and vaginal deliveries get percocet for pain right after birth every day... as was stated by many in your other thread

What the other ladies said. From personal experience just made baby drowsey. I took percs and diluadid while breastfeeding my daughter for a good 2-3 months due to surgery.

Ok. I think I got enough reassurance that its safe. I'll just keep a close eye on my LO in case if anything happens. Thank you, ladies. I appreciate the advice.

really no reason to post 2 threads about it. You got answers... or.. you could have called a pharmacy if you weren't going to trust the answers you got... or.. you could have looked it up on Kellymom.com

I posted 2 threads because I had realized I didn't finish the first one. I forgot you could go back & edit the threads. I realized that & edited the first one. I dont get on here often. It's not a big deal. Unfortunately baby gaga doesn't give me the choice to delete threads. If it did, I would have deleted it.. I appreciate the advice though. Thank you.
