How to eat healthy when DH won't...

posted 10th Dec
We have $50 to spend every two weeks on groceries. That is with food stamps. WIC doesn't give us enough formula for LO and we are going to start him on baby food so until I get a blender (if I get one) we have to buy baby food, so that is that much more money we don't have to spend on food. I've been trying to lose weight because I weigh 140 right now. 10 or so more pounds and I will be the same weight I was the day before I had LO who is almost 5 months old. DH said that I should just give up on eating healthy until he can work out in a gym on a regular basis. I suggested that he do body weight exercises for right now. He said no that they are pointless for him. (He used to be on the offensive line in football and is not a small guy.) It's really bugging me because until I had DS I had never went over 110 pounds and even then I only weighed 120 after I had him.
So how do I convince him to eat healthy or eat healthy with the junk food he buys? (All of the things we can afford to eat are things like dorritos, Little Debbie snacks, pop tarts, fatty junk foods.) I know I can use portion control and exercise but I need more than that. I feel like even with portion control, exercise, and watching calories the sugars and carbohydrates in the foods are doing nothing what so ever to help me lose wright. It makes me feel like I'm either doing nothing or gaining even more weight. How do I fix this?? I feel so gross that I don't even want to look in the mirror or put anything but sweat pants and baggy clothes on...

Well all those things you listed are expensive no cheap. You can buy a whole chicken for 5$ and use it for 3 meals. Just don't buy smurf and you guys don't eat it.

Not sure about that, but wanted to add that you can just boil and mash food you're eating for LO. Especially if you'll be eating more fruits and veggies. Its a lot cheaper than purees.

I've tried. I really have! With WIC I get the fresh fruits and veggies and since I'm picky I'm trying to try new things. The first time I went to get some things I asked him, what do you think I would like? He looked at me and said nothing.
I would rather by chicken instead of red meat because chicken tastes better to me. Every time I suggest it he says no we can't afford it. I'm not allowed to go grocery shopping by myself. He HAS to go...

No ): DH threw it away because he left food in it that went bad and then didn't want to clean it. Hopefully I will be getting one for christmas. I keeps seeing all these healthy crockpot meals I would love to try!

$50 every two weeks? That's nothing. I was going to say "Just stock up on healthy foods for you and smurf food for him" but with only $100 a month for food....that would be hard. I would just replace your crap food with health(ier) options. Low fat, fat free, items and cook more rather than pop things into the microwave.

Buying junk is not cheaper. Instead of buying a bag of doritos for $3.50 buy a bag of carrots and celery (to eat with peanut butter) for even less then $3. Do the grocery shopping when he's not around.

We don't microwave... We eat out because on some days we spend all evening in town and DH refuses to go home and cook... I try to get the healthier options of food but most of the time I can't and it ruins my whole day....

OP it seems like you have way bigger problems here than not eating healthy....

I don't know how to make very many things and even when I suggest it he says no it will be to late or we are right here or we don't have anything (even when we do).
