posted 10th Dec
How does it feel? What happens when they do it? Im having a c-section in 6 days. My first I was under general so I wasnt awake. How long did it take to wear off? When can I get up?

My epidural with my planned c-section happened in the OR,
and just felt like extreme pressure on my back for a moment.
It went well (especially compared to the one with my first)

I don't know when it wore off but i was up and walking later that day.

I could feel a little tugging, but no pain at all. They gave me Fentanyl during the c-section, so I was still pretty doped up. My son was born at 10:44 AM, and I think around 1 or 2 that afternoon the epidural started to wear off. It was still several more hours before I got up and walked around.

Good luck!!

It feels like a small pinch. Then in about 5 minutes EVERYTHING from the waist down is 100% numb. It usually wears off completely in 3-4 hrs.

I'll be keeping an eye on this. I'll be having my 3rd csection next month ( ) but I was put under with my first two since the first was an emergency and the second being a failed vbac.

I didn't feel much except pulling/pressure. It didn't hurt at all though. (During, of course afterwards it hurt)

*to clarify, i'm just talking about the epidural in my comment, not the actual c-section procedure. not sure if you're asking about both in the OP or just the epidural.

It felt like a little pinch to me and within minutes everything from my boobs down was numb. I felt a little pressure during the procedure but that's it. I had a HORRIBLE headache for a couple days afterward though.

EDIT: I got a spinal. (not sure if it's different?)

With my first i was up 3hrs after my c-section. Now it hurt to get up but the sooner u do the faster u heal as long as ur not over doing it. My widural was taken out almost immediately after surgery and wore off in an hour or so. It wasnt bad and they gave me pain meds before it had worn off. Im having a c-section again on the 18th, my second, and id be more scared of natural chid birth, but thats because ive experienced the c-section before.

With my first I was on the epi during labor then had an emercency csection and had to be put under because I could feel it. The epi takes away the pain for me but I can still bare weight on my legs and go to the bathroom and stuff. The epi isn't strong enough IMO. The spinal is what I had with my planned one and it goes in the same as the epi but your are numb almost instantly. I got sick right after it was put in but they gave me meds in my IV and it was gone almost as quick as it started. The only thing I felt was my body shake when the baby was pulled out.

I have everyday that I missed the birth of my first child due to being under general. My second csection was so easy and pleasant.

Im more confused about the epi, by "numb" is it like...your lower half is gone or like when your leg is asleep?

it wasn't either for me... I could still move and control my lower half, but it didn't feel like it was "asleep" either. It's hard to explain, but basically i didn't feel people touching me, etc... I think it's different for different people though.

It was a really weird sensation for me. I had my epi started hours before as we were going f a vaginal birth. My leg kept slipping off the bed, i guess unintentionally i was moving it a little at a time, but i couldnt move my leg on my own. My hubby or mom would have to move my leg back up. I could feel the weight of my legs and lower half but had absolutely no control and really couldn't feel anything. I only felt pressure and tugging when they took my son out.

It felt like a bee sting and then a lot of pressure. Then everything slowly started to go numb and I got the shakes really bad. I'm pretty sure it started to wear off an hour or two after I had him.
