I'm sure this is nothing but...

I'm ten weeks pregnant. So that means "Using Doppler technology, you can hear their tiny rapid fetal heartbeats this week (145-165 beats per minute!). Chances for miscarriage are greatly reduced when the heartbeat can be detected, so take a sigh of relief if you've been needing one. It hasn’t been an easy ten weeks!" But I went today to my dr and she wouldn't even TRY to find the baby's heartbeat. I have a bit of a problem with that. I was hoping to hear the heartbeat today. But she refused. I mean, with my son I was ten weeks and my old ob picked up his heartbeat first time. I guess I'm just a bit frustrated. Though, I did pick up a heartbeat on my home doppler. Wheter she believes it or not, my husband even heard it. I'm getting a new one soon just don't kniw when. And maybe that one will have a clearer sound to it.

Did she say why she refused? My guess is that at 10 weeks you can hear it, but you can't always pick it up. Not picking it up doesn't mean anything, especially if you're not having problems, but it WILL cause worry and stress for the mother. Perhaps that's why she chooses not to do it? She figures that unless you're having symptoms that indicate a problem, it's better to not do it when it's unsure if you'll find anything and risk the worry it can create.

Thats crazy!! Wats the point on going to the dr if they don't even ck on the baby!! My OB did another ultrasound at 11 wks because she said it was easier to pick up the heartrate that way...this is my fourth and I always find out early when I'm pregnant so its usually too early to hear but they used another method to get it and I have never had a DR refuse to look for the heart beat!!

If you heard it at home, why are you upset the doctor didn't try? It would take a lot of time, and not mean anything if he couldn't find it. Certainly not reason to change doctors... Though if you get upset that easily.. Changing doctors would certainly save the current one a good deal of frustration

I would request a new ob. I had my first ultrasound by 10w. I had been hearing the heartbeat for 4 weeks already.

She said they wouldn't be able to pick up the heartbeat with the handheld Doppler. Which isn't always true. But she wouldn't even try. I was really hoping she would. I got pregnant real close to having a miscarriage, so I'm gonna be a bit nervous ab everything until I can feel the baby moving.

See, that's probably why she didn't do it. She might be able to pick it up, but if she couldn't you'd have likely worried MORE then if she didn't do it at all. I know it's exciting to reach that point, to hear it, but if she couldn't find it (which is possible) she probably didn't want you freaking out since you're already nervous, you know?

I'm not sure if I actually heard the heartbeat or not. We think it was, but we can never be 100% sure

Except the only reason you wouldn't hear the heartbeat by 10 weeks would actually be cause for concern. Unless they're using a Doppler from the dark ages, there's no reason it shouldn't pick it up.

I don't know. I honestly don't know a ton about it. I looked uit up and it says usually by the 10th week but can be difficult to find or hear until the 12th week. Maybe that's why she waited, because until the 12th week they MAY not find it and she doesn't want to worry the parent.

I'll admit, I personally think that is good. People are way too reliant on some of this stuff, and it causes unneeded stress.

Yeah I guess you're right. I guess I'm just antsy ab the baby and wanting more proof. I know I'm pregnant but I still don't believe it.

I understand. Really. I know it's hard. And at the end of the day, if you want to change Dr's you should. You should feel comfortable with whoever is your Dr. If you don't, then you're not with the right person, no matter if what they're doing is right or wrong, you know?
