Depo?

posted 10th Dec
So I am thinking about getting the Depo shot, if you have it do you like it? Is it ok to have while breastfeeding?

its something youll be willing to risk trying, and hoping it works lol but just be prepared for it to mess you up and in that case just stop and try something else

I had no problems other than some weight gain. But I also wasnt eating right(was in high school and didnt care about what was healthy and what wasnt) Never bled on it. No crazy hormones. Nothing. I probably wouldve went with that after having DS but I wanted something that lasted a little longer.

I don't know about whether or not you can have it while BFing.
But I do know 3 people who were on it, and all 3 of them gained a very large amount of weight, mostly in the midsection, and couldn't lose it until they stopped getting the depo shots.
My OB also told me she didn't recommend it at all BECAUSE of the weight gain she has witnessed patients gain on it.

Yes its considered safe to use while breastfeeding. I used it for my first 3 months. My personal experience was not horrible but could of been better
I didn't gain any weight and I had severe ppd so who knows if it contributed to my emotional state at all. I will tell you that my hair started falling out in huge clumps. I did have low iron levels however after I stopped depo my levels went back to normal. Was it depo? I don't know but it did stop after quitting. My biggest issue with depo was the longterm side effects from taking it. The possible bone loss and such just wasn't worth the risk. If you do decide to try it make sure you are never on it for more than 2 years. I ended up on the mini pill with condom backup for my nursing days and back to the nuvaring for when im not nursing.

Yea, I could do the mini pill, I will deff be using condoms especially since my DD was conceived even after being on BC & using Plan B lol.

I've only ever had Mirena, which also gave me horrible weight gain, and I was on 2 different types of BC pills, but for less than a year so I don't know   I just posted about BC pills a bit ago haha

If you're nursing, what about the mini-pill?

I also want to add that I was on it for 3 years. Tried the patches afterwards and they werent horrible just made me itchy where the patch was. Hated pills. And now have the nexplanon.

I have heard about it not being as effective...I will be using condoms as well so I think it should work.

I was thinking about getting that as well. Do you like it? My OB told me it is the same thing as depo but longer lasting.

The thought of something being inserted into my arm just creeps me out. Which is I won't get implanon/nexplanon. Have you considered paraguard. Non-hormonal 10 year IUD?
