Febrile Seizures -long

posted 10th Dec
I never even had any idea what they were until last night.
LO had a fever all day yesterday. The last time we called the after-hours clinic for a fever they told us to alternate Motrin and Tylenol every 4 hours, which we were doing. I was going to call his doctor this morning if he was still running a fever.
Well, last night I was in the living room and I heard LO in our room (he didn't want to sleep in his bed) I went to check on him and he had just stirred and went back to sleep. I decided to just stay in my room and watch tv. At 11:00, for some reason that I do not know, I touched LO. It felt like he was kind of shaking. Then he just sat up and threw up. I thought maybe he had a stomach bug or something.
But when I picked him up, he was unresponsive, shaking bad, and throwing up. I have never been so scared in my life. I had no idea what was going on.
Called 911, it took them about 5 minutes to get to our house. The whole time, I'm trying to stay calm, but failing. LO kept acting like he was just going to doze off and I was so afraid to let him sleep.
His daddy and I took him to the ER. We were there almost 3.5 hours.
Within the first hour they gave him some medicine, which perked him up.
So we were at the ER, in a little room, with a bored 10 month old, who was also "flirting" with every nurse that came in.

I am so thankful that this is something considered common and that he is fine now.
I hope I never have to have that feeling again.  I kept thinking, what if I hadn't decided to go in our room or what if I decided to leave for a smoke. Uggh.

Have any of your LO's had a febrile seizure?

my son had one at 13 months. We were in the waiting room st the er when his eyes rolled back into his head and he stopped breathing. The ran him to the trauma room and his temp was over 105. We couldn't get his temp down with medicine and cooling blankets so we stayed in the hospital for 3 days.

Well, at least I read up on it last night as soon as we got home. So I'm kind of prepared if it happens again. I can still see myself trying to freak out
He just woke up and he's playing like nothing even happened. He's still kind of pale though.

I am so sorry you had to go through that! When my son was 2 1/2 he had a febrile seizure. I had checked his temp before he had it and it was at 100.5 and he was acting fine. Then he randomly wanted to snuggle with my SO and I was sitting next to them when my SO was like "what is he doing, it feels like he's shaking" so I looked at him and saw his eyes roll into the back of his head while shaking horribley, I handed him over to my mom and she placed him on the floor where he stopped shaking, went completely limp, proceeded to stop breathing and started turning blue. My mom gave him rescue breathes and after a minute he started breathing again and was super disoriented and kept calling for me even though I was right next to him on the phone with 911. I had noidea wtf was going on, because when he came to half his face was paralized but eventually went away. The paramedics came took his temp, it was unreadable so to this day I'm scared to think what his temp was because by the time we got to the er his temp had lowered to 103.2.

Oh no
LO's temp was 104 at the ER, and we checked it before he went to sleep and it was 101.5. It was 99 by the time we got to leave. He still has a bit of a fever this morning, but it's not holding him back from having fun.
