Delayed cord cutting vs. cord blood banking

posted 10th Dec
Just wondering how many ladies have chosen to delay the cord cutting, or have decided to bank the cord blood. I don't think you can do both at the same time... I'm leaning more towards the delayed cutting, until it stops pulsating and would like some input from women who've experienced this or are considering it.

We are banking this baby's cord blood. We've never delayed cord cutting.

I didn't do either but would only be interested in delayed cord cutting, mainly because I don't want to pay for the banking fees. But, is it even possible to do delayed cord cutting with a c-sec? With my first it was not possible because it was an emergency and they had to do cpr on him.

After all of the great things I hear about delayed cord cutting, I'm really surprised that it isn't more common. I'm also really surprised that it's not become standard/common practice for uncomplicated births. I asked about it at my local hospital (small town) during my registration, and they had no idea what I was talking about. There was one nurse who thought I was referring to a "lotus birth" which isn't the same thing. I don't really want to keep the baby attached to the placenta for days after the cord is done pulsating. Apparently, they had one woman who gave birth at home and was brought in a week later with the baby still attached to the placenta. The nurse who was there said that all the other nurses in L&D just gawked and couldn't believe their eyes.

I would do delayed clamping over banking. I wish I had known more about it b4 delivery and about placenta encapsulation.

I am choosing delayed cord cutting. I've heard great things about it, and I definitely don't have the money to bank the cord blood.
