Homeschooling Schedule Template!

posted 10th Dec
So here is the rough draft of the schedule for my 4 yr old son

Morning!
Eat,Wash,Pray, 1 Tv show =1 1/2 hr

Math = 10 min
Phonics and Handwriting = 15 min
Vocabulary Cards = 5 min-10 min (10 words to recognize by end of week)

Arts and Crafts=30 minutes
Play time =15 min

Lunch=15 min
Story time=5-10 min
Nap=1hr

Popcorn and 1hr educational video (Popcorn and a Movie)= 1hr
Phonics and Handwriting= 15 min
Math= 10 min
Free time BOUGHT on good behavior based by the currency they've earned throughout the day (currency system placed by husband and I to teach them value and reward system)= 15-30 minutes
Vocabulary= 10 min
Spanish Time! =10 min

Freestyle the rest of the day!!

EDITED to be bold below (so you can see the reasoning of my madness)

I think I've included all that he needs for his 1st grade yr (where he's testing at currently) without making it to daunting and heavy all at once.
I've broken up the time needed on each subject in half and included breaks

Whats your feedback? Do you think I could add more?Keep the same?? Any REAL (not judgmental just to be an ass) advice or ideas?

I think 10 minutes for subjects is WAY too little of a time to adequately teach a subject and reinforce it through work/instruction.

Seriously, 10 minutes should be enough time to TEACH the concept yourself, then more time to practice, then reinforce more. 15 minutes isnt enough either.

What do you plan on doing with the vocabulary cards to ensure he's absorbing what he is seeing, instead of showing cards like "Cat" and showing a picture of a cat... whole word phonics is actually bad for children and not a good way to teach how to read. Im just wondering how you plan to enforce/teach vocab and phonics.

He gets an hour of TV before "school" and then 10 minutes per subject?

Too much play/arts and not enough school time. I would honestly spend no less than 20 minutes a day on each subject.

He actually spends more than 10 minutes a day on each subject
Tv is not the only thing that hes doing during the morning time.Its 1 1/2 hr to get all of the morning routine done. If he takes longer to eat then he takes away from his show.

But 1hr of total playtime split 3 ways throughout the day I think isnt too bad.
It keeps him refreshed.
The broken down subjects keep him from being overwhelmed easily since he still is only 4/

According to your "template", he gets 10 minutes.

I just don't see TV time as being something to include prior to any learning.

We do letter writing/spelling one day; numbers the next. But I try to spend about an hour of teaching/learning and then he plays. And then we cook lunch together and repeat the morning-1 hour learning, play the rest of the time--arts and crafts, play dough, coloring, tracing, glueing stuff, etc. we read books for quiet time after lunch, but he does get about 1 hour of TV time while his dad and I cook dinner. I'm all for it, mama needs a break..

Quoting Subtle As A Hurricane:" What about Science and Social Studies?"

Science is included with Arts and Crafts
Social studies isn't really introduced in 1st grade.

He actually does 2 hrs of school a day
The videos are usually history videos made for kids.
The bought free time is a currency class with my husband lol. Its something we have started in the household to teach them the value of dollar and the idea of a reward system.

Its my schedule not the detailed curriculum.
I only explained the parts of where someone may be saying what kind of subject is that
The subjects all have their layouts.
Again this is the Schedule

Seriously what can you teach in 10 minutes? Even 15? I would seriously consider re-thinking your schedule. I get you dont want him to get burned out but I dont see much getting accomplished in 5-15 minutes.

I've been wondering how to get him started on the value of money and stuff..he doesn't get rewards for doing his chores-picking up toys, putting away his dish, etc..I just praise him and hope his future wife appreciates it 😃

(but the free time currency sounds like a good idea)
