Is it possible?

posted 10th Dec
I am wondering if its possible for my nipples to not be good enough for breastfeeding? I dont have inverted nipples or anything, but they dont stick out like a nipple on a bottle and I had a very hard time when I couldnt breast feed my son (My milk didnt come in and he refused to breast feed, it caused a bit of ppd in myself) so Id like to prepare as much as possible this time. I wanted to know though, is it possible that if they dont stick out enough that they arent good for breast feeding??
I feel silly asking, but might as well!

My nipples are like flesh with my breats. Only poke out when very cold or stimulated. My daughter was able to latch just fine.

Thank you, I think I just need to push my worries to the side. Kinda trying to prepare as much as possible this time.

TBH mine dont stick out much either. But he takes the whole nipple in his mouth and when he's done its shaped like a pacifier for a while lol.

Good luck breastfeeding, getting past the first two weeks is always the hardest for me. Especially since we get thrush a lot, but just keep trying. Drink the tea, take the fenugreek, drink lots of water, and keep putting the baby to your breast as often as you can. Try talking to a lactation consultant too to help you with getting the baby to latch on.

I was a post partum nurse for a while and done a lot of breast feeding education. It doesn't matter about your nipples. Its not the nipples they latch into. They latch on to the araola and your nipple should just relax in the back if their tounge. The best thing to do to prepare for breastfeeding is pump before you deliever. It will stimuate your colosturom and milk flow. Also talk to a lactation specialist. I'm sure your hospital will have one. Also a nipple shield will do wonders!! Good luck and remember it's not about your nipples. You will do great this time
