First dentist visit.

posted 9th Dec
My daughter is 4 and has some problem's with her teeth... Tomorrow is her first dentist appointment and i'm so nervous! What are they going to do? I dont want them to talk down to me because of her teeth. She brushes them every morning & night. She has some brown and decaying going on in the front. But honestly bad teeth run in the family. She's pretty excited to go though so that's good.

They will take X rays and exam her teeth. They will also deep clean and let you know what else will need to be done for her tooth decay or if she has cavities. Prep yourself in case your hygenist is rude for her not going sooner. I saw this lady being ugly to this woman because both of her sons had cavities.

Typically they want to see them when they are 2 or 3. Mostly all they do is count their teeth. They can look for bottle rot as well. If you are a parent that takes care of your childs teeth properly and doesnt put them to bed with a bottle in their mouth, you are ok to wait.

Some places won't even see kids til they're 3.. my son was 13 months when we went cause he had a spot on his tooth.. all they did was check it out and brush/clean his teeth. Since she's older they'll probably do more though.

they say one to just get them used to seeing a dentist but the child doesn't really have to unless problems pop up until 3 or 4.. this is what i was told by the dentist.

Not all dentists will see patients that young. My DS is 2 and I took him with me earlier this year and the dentist looked at his teeth but said she wouldn't do a cleaning til he was probly 3 or 4

That's a pretty long time not to take her to a dentist. The recommended age is 2 at the latest (for a first appt). That being said, she's not gonna do this willingly. They might gas her to keep her still and calm. They'll probably fill any cavities and try to scrap off any decay. They won't pull any teeth because she's young. But, depending on the dentist, you might get an ear full for waiting so long to take her to the dentist.

Good luck! I hope your daughter takes it well!

This! If the brown is just staining they will likely skip the xrays. they are baby teeth so they aren't going to take them every time. However, if it is decay and rot, the x-rays will be done to see just how far the damage is and if they can do repairs until her adult teeth come in.

My girls don't get "cleanings". They get flouride though. They don't to a traditional cleaning on baby teeth. Not unless there is a problem.

That is insane. My daughter got a cleaning at the age of 2.
