I have also experienced this personally directed towards me not my child. Just because its not ethical doesn't mean its not done

My sons dentist will pull them of absolutely necessary. But will try to avoid it. The reason is because even though they are baby teeth, they guide the adult teeth in.

My son got a good knock on his front tooth. I took him in straight away because it shifted position. His dentist told me things to look for, and he ended up needing a root canal and filling in his front tooth a couple of months later. If it turns really dark they will pull it still, but are trying to leave it in. And this happened more than a year ago.

Wow that's crazy. Here everyone I know gets them in within the first year or two at the latest. Pedis and dentists must give different recommendations there or something

Perhaps you just weren't educated properly!!!

There is a reason there are pediatric dentists. It is not a matter of not wanting to "deal with them". They don't just "gas" a child just because. They take other measures first. If the first thing a dentist does is want to gas your child for an exam, FIND A NEW DENTIST!!

They pull teeth because they can cause damage to the gums and even damage the permanent teeth before they come in. In some cases they will even cap the teeth if needed. Bottle rot is typically the front teeth. Have you ever seen a child with bottle rot? Do you know what it looks like and what happens if it is left untreated?

Dr's that behave in that manner should be reported. Unethical treatment is what it is called. Unless they are your personal buddy, they should NEVER speak to you in that manner.

Your facts are WRONG ma'am and I suggest that you do a little research.

I agree. They should be reported and I would find a new provider in a heart beat. It is one thing to say "this is why we do this and if you don't do this, this will happen...." It is another thing for a nasty lecture and a bitch session.

Images of bottle rot. The teeth that weren't pulled are causing the most damage to the permanent teeth. Also, those rotting teeth make it hard for children to eat

Then you dentist was a jack ass. Rotten teeth don't just be left alone. They can make you really sick. If there was an infection it would be nothing to mess around with, as your teeth are so close to your brain.

And some dentists are has happy because it means more $$ in their pocket. Not because most kids freak out. It makes their job easier. But you can refuse the gas.

Although I do agree with the chewing out. That does happen. But IMO sometimes it's called for. Some parents don't understand how important their kids teeth are.

I probably am misinformed, but I was simply going off what I was told by these medical professionals. I have yet to come by a dentist that will not hesitate to gas a kid if they start freaking out. & reporting them, in my area, does absolutely NOTHING! I guess I never cared to research it because my kid doesn't have any problems and his current dentist would rather have me hold him down before trying to gas him.

You can get her the toothbrush that plays music! That might perk her a bit.

I honestly didn't take my girls until they were 3. It wasn't a hurry. I called the local pediatric dentist and asked when they were 1. He said that they generally don't do much at 1 because they have few teeth. They want to see them at 2-3. Sooner if I suspect a problem. All they do for little ones at 2 is count their teeth and do a quick look for an obvious problem. At 3 they can have flouride if you desire. My son only went earlier than the girls for my freak out reason. lol

Also, most peditricians will look at the teeth during visits and give you an early referral or say if all looks good. My pedi is amazing and I trust her. She was right, nothing wrong with any of my kids teeth. I wouldn't stress about this being her first apointment. It is not like you are neglecting the issue. My girls go to preschool with a little girl who had bottle rot so bad she had a hard time eating and her breath was awful. Her parents refused to take her to the dentist. They were always "waiting for the ronald mcdonald free dentist bus". Anyway, they were finally told that they had to have her teeth pulled because it was a health risk to the little girl. This year, she is back without her front teeth and she is eating properly. You can see the weight gain in her.

You report them to the medical board. It isn't a matter of your "area". It affects their license.

I agree, some mother's don't care for their children's teeth. Hell, even their health. Sometimes, they need to hear a dose of reality and the dangers of their actions.

Those are cases left untreated. The little girl I talked about, her teeth were black from the gum down and only had a sliver of "white" enamel left before they finally did something for her. The school was on the parents all last year. It was awful. I felt so bad for her.
