re: I hate that I can't be a SAHM, how many of you work?

At least you get 6 weeks.

I don't get any maternity leave coverage and I'm a single mom so I have to go back to work within a few days of giving birth.

Maybe start looking for work-at-home customer service jobs.

I can see that being less frustrated, but working at a daycare, it's mostly baby/toddler interaction, all day long so that gets old after a while

I work. I'd love to stay home with my son but just can't. I'm a single mother with no help from his father whatsoever. 3pm to 11pm Monday-Friday. It sucks because I get home and DS is already sleeping. Makes me sad but I have to do what I have to do to support my son and that's what keeps me going.

I work full time, I wouldn't change it.

You don't even get disability? That's all I'm getting otherwise I would get nothing as well.

I am a SAHM and have been for 4 + years. The part I miss about working is adult conversation and feeling like I am accomplishing something. lol Plus, it would be really nice to not spend the entire day cleaning something constantly and I might want a reason to get out of my ratty t-shirt and yoga pants.

Plenty of parents work a 40hr work week and then go home to care for their children. It isn't as bad as it seems. Your house is clean because you aren't there all day to mess it up, you only have dishes from breakfast (if you eat it) and dinner to worry about. Most of your meals can be made on the weekend and frozen until you are ready to cook them.

It will work out no matter if you work or stay home. You will find a grove and just run with it. Don't stress!

I'm a SAHM, and I LOVE it. It definitely isn't for everyone and it has it's pros & cons.

Why would I get disability? Pregnancy isn't one. Neither is childbirth.

Oh really? A few friends have kids that I work with and they're fine with it as well, maybe I'm just stressing out over nothing and assuming the worst, so I'll see how it goes

I fee like I am running on a never ending treadmill (and I don't clean very much at all, my DH is much cleaner than I am).......I felt much more accomplished when I was working too. LOL

Oh idk what state you're in but NY gives women paid disability coverage for up to 6 weeks for natural birth and 8 weeks for a c section.

LOL I agree. However, some companies offer "Short term disability" insurance. It pays for your entire maternity leave and longer if your Dr writes you out. But, I do agree! lol I had c-sections and those didn't keep me down except when I couldn't feel my legs. lol

Arizona could give less than half a smurf about any kind of aid for women.

That's not true. Several girls that worked for me during my time there had all kinds of aide to get them thru maternity leave and such. Of course, you have to qualify for that aide just as in other states. NY doesn't just "give" it to every mother who has a baby. It is a form of state aide
