Do you get family pictures done? How often?

I'm a photographer, and haven't had family photos of my son, SO and I done in over 2 years.

BUT tomorrow I am taking them myself.  

My son and I have pictures donemultiple times a year. I'm not with his father nor does his father have anything to do with him, but that doesn't make my son and I any less of a family  

"I'm not with LOs father"

Is that important? Aren't they still family pics with or without the dad?

I try once a year but, we missed last year and will probably miss this year too

I didn't mean that. My nephew gets family pictures done with my sister multiple times a year and once a year with his dad.

They may get pictures with mom and LO more than family pictures with dad.

I think the ones with just kids are usually nice. I think the ones with adults look dorky.
I'm talking about the professional ones with fake backdrops.

I like family pics from holidays or vacations, etc. when the people are in a natural or normal setting.

That is how ours usually are.

Yup. Pics of the family at Disney or Hershey park or "the lake" are great! We always TRY to get those, but we have never been in a studio.

My mom is a photographer and I hate the posed pictures. But her and my family are starting to harass me saying my kids are going to resent me when they are grown up and realize that their nana was a photographer and we didn't get family pictures every year.

Hmmm. They are insulted, perhaps. There are some great photographers that do the "on location" type photo shoots and the staged "candids." Would she do that for you? If she is good, you could get some great shots!
My neighbors mom insists on professional pics of her 3 grandchildren. They have a lot of money and hire a professional that gets priceless shots of the kids. The photographer is fantastic.... But a fortune.

I let her take as many pictures of the kids as she wants. My sister has poster sized prints of the family pictures my mom has taken on her wall. I don't have any posed pictures on my wall. I am not a fan and my DH practically refuses to get any posed pictures done.

I do our fam photos since I like photography. We set the camera to time and then I edit them and make them nice and all that. We usually only do them for special things. For example we just did one for our christmas card. It's sooo cute

My cousin and her husband are photographers. They usually do our family Photos in nature settings. We do alot outdoors. I am thinking we are going to do some in the snow this winter if I can get a day that is over 8* and my husband is home. lol
