Co-Sleeping?

posted 9th Dec
So my son Noah is 8 days old now, at the hospital he slept so perfectly in the bassinet there. Fast forward to our first night at home and he had such a hard time with doing it at home..I've tried our swing, which he likes but won't sleep in at night. One night or should i say "early morning"...I had fed, swaddled and rocked him and was about to transfer him to his bed..He wasn't having any of it. Every time the paci falls out of his mouth he wakes right up and stirs quite a bit. I became desperate and put him into bed with me, in which he slept for 4 1/2 hrs with no stirring at all. My first son slept very well in his swing, so this is new to me. Ever since then i've been trying to get Noah to sleep in his own bed, however he keeps resisting it. Does anyone know anything about Co-Sleeping? I'm considering it, just not sure of the risks that would go with it. TIA!

You can find lots of threads on here about Co-sleeping safely!

I loved co-sleeping, we only stopped because the bed was getting too crowded for all of us, and no one was getting any rest.

Good luck, and congratulations on your baby!

LO slept with us when she was an infant because we had the same problem, and we didn't have her crib set up yet, about 2-3 weeks old we transfered her to her bed, and she slept fine, but hated the bassinet, and swing

I co slept with both my kids. With my oldest I had the bassinet right next to the bed and DS on the side in my arm because DH was afraid he would roll over and squish him. I started out the night putting DS in his bassinet and when he would up I would being him in bed with me. Did that until he started sleeping all night at 3 months.

With my baby I started out the same way until he started sleeping all night at 2 months. His bassinet is still right next to my bed though so if he wakes up I can just nurse him and let him fall asleep with me.

As long as you aren't on medications, or smoke or drink, and no heavy blankets on the bed you are generally safe. Just make sure baby can't roll off the bed or anything.

It's safe. I love co -sleeping. It actually lowers the risks of SIDS. Tune everyone out and if it's what works for you, go for it.
It's the best thing in the world to have that snuggly little body next to you happy and knowing they are safe simply because they are with mama!

How do you not think about the risks? I'm scared he'll suffocate or something, i guess i worry too much for my own good lol
I read that memory foam mattresses are a no no? We are probably going to get one in a couple of weeks, is it really true that they aren't advised?

Babies pass away in cribs all the time, and deaths are less likely co-sleeping when done safely... that's what eases my mind when I co-sleep.

Co sleeping is awesome! We have done it with both of our kids so far and will with this one too. When my son was 13 months he just got up one night and went to his crib and has slept in his bed mostly ever since. Except when he asks to sleep with us which is whenever he's sick, scared, or lonely. Lol he's six. Our daughter is 23 months and has slept in our bed every night since she was born. I love it. It reduces the risk of SIDS and helps them sleep securely and feel safe. Not to mention I don't have to get up a million times to check on them, I just open an eye peak at them and know they're ok.

Use the search, there are lots of great, supportive, and informative threads in here about safely co sleeping. I know that blankets and pillows need to be kept away from baby and most people recommend only doing it on a non-pillow top matress with only a light sheet or blanket to cover, but use our pillow top and the kids have been fine. That doesn't mean I recommend it but just a bit of my experience. Good luck! Co sleepIng is the best!!!

There's risks sleeping in a crib too. I have held my daughter in my bed every night. I can hear/feel her breathing. I am a light sleeper so I never worried about rolling on her. We tried using a cosleeping bed thing but she never stayed in it. On nights when I wanted to sprawl out I put her on the other side of the bed (with a pillow on the edge). I put her at the top of the bed so my covers wouldn't cover her face. Idk about the memory foam mattress. I'd assume they're not good because they're too soft.

What I do is put one arm under my daughters head so her head won't get stuck in an un-safe position, then I have one arm over her stomach so she can't roll anywhere. I lay on my side with my butt toward the outside of the bed and my DD on the inner part of the bed snuggled up next to me. I LOVE co-sleeping.

I love co-sleeping, its the only way I get any sleep, it was that way with DD I tried everything under the sun to get her to sleep on her own finally at 1 week I started co-sleeping with her, So when I had DS I knew Id want to co-sleep right at the start.
I dont regret co-sleeping at all, DD sleeps in a twin size bed in her own room and I never have to fight her at bed time, so obviously I didnt spoil her by letting her sleep with me her first year of life.
