Was I rude??

posted 9th Dec
We had a huge birthday party for my Grandma's 75th birthday yesterday it had been planned for months, My little nephew (4mo) had a cold and didn't feel well. But because we were doing family photo's with the WHOLE family and that it was planned forever, my brother and SIL took him to the party for a little bit. Well my nephew didn't want ANYONE to hold him except his mom....So everyone was getting all pissy because they had never met him (out of town family) and wanted to hold him. Normally he is a very happy baby, but poor guy just didn't feel well!!
My SIL wanted to eat dinner so I told her to hand him to me and eat. So I took my nephew and we were sitting on the couch, he was managing to cough and get snot all over me, and was trying to fall asleep. My cousins saw that I had him and kept asking to hold him, I told them no that he didn't feel good and needed sleep. Plus my nephew would look at them and bury his face into my chest when they would come by.
Well my grandma called my dad and said that SIL and I were very rude for not allowing everyone to hold my nephew. (Dad was only there for the pictures and then he ate and left). So my dad calls me yelling that, I need not to hog the baby and that I needed to let other people hold him....I explained the situation and dad still said I was rude.....

I don't think I was? Was I?

No, you weren't rude, you were just doing what you thought was best for the baby.

No you did the right thing. Just ignore them. If they can't understand why ypu didn't let them hold him then oh well. It seems pretty simple to me.

No not rude at all. Babies are adorable, but people need to be understanding when the baby is sick.

Not rude at all. I would have got really rude with everyone who was whining about it. No means no, specially when it comes to a sick baby.

No not rude. I can understand where you arr coming from. They need to understand that the baby wasn't feeling well and that was that.

No not at all. You were trying to help take care of a sick miserable baby who doesn't need to be passed around and only add to his discomfort.

And...the mother said for you to hold him...not the whole family.
It's like letting someone borrow something when it's not yours to give, except this little child was sick, with feelings and he didn't want to be "borrowed".
Hope that makes sense. Lol

No, not rude. Babies aren't toys, you can't pass them from person to person... Not sure why people think that's okay. He was sick, to boot.
