parents who make your own baby food

When you use pears or apples, do you usually peel them or do you leavve the peeling on. I know that this skin can have alot of nutrients. But im new to making baby food, so i dont know if i should leave the peeling on or just throw it all in the blender?

I use the peels.
Most people dont, though.

Its all preference. The skin takes a little longer to puree, so it might take an extra minute. But the skin is way healthier.

Thats a good point. I just started my LO on solids last week and we have just done squash and avocado so far but using the skin on apples and pears is a good idea for the added nutrients. I will definitely try to use them. Just make sure you use organic or just scrub the hell out of regular apples and pears because pesticides and stuff stick to the skin.

I always peel anything in the "Dirty Dozen" (foods that are most contaminated with pesticides). If I can't peel it (ex: grapes, spinach, blueberries, etc) then I buy organic.

This year's dirty dozen:
  1. Apples
  2. Celery
  3. Sweet bell peppers
  4. Peaches
  5. Strawberries
  6. Nectarines (imported)
  7. Grapes
  8. Spinach
  9. Lettuce
  10. Cucumbers
  11. Blueberries
  12. Potatoes

I always peel and bake for this reason also. There is no telling how much poop and pesticide is on those peels that rinsing it isn't going to get off.
