Have you had an unassisted home birth?
posted 9th Dec
I'm looking for women who had an unassisted home birth who actually wanted it and planned to have it, not ones that happened by accident.
I'm not worried abour prenatal care I'm just wondering what you do after the baby is born. Do you have to take them to the hospital? I'm planning a home birth but just found out that I have to pay the entire $3500 before April and then bill my insurance company to reimburse me which I will not be able to do.
I'm absolutely terrified of going back to the hospital to labor and give birth, and I really don't want to deal with a hospital at all.
I'm wondering if I can find a home birth midwife willing to come assist just for the birth or come check on me and the baby after the birth like they normally would for a home birth?
Anyway, just looking into my options. If I absolutey have to go to a hospital I will but I'd much rather do ANYTHING else.
And no there are no birthing centers anywhere near me

I'd look into the local midwives who would be willing to come for the birth.
I am a Doula and I, MYSELF, (personal choice from experience) am against unassisted births.

Oh yeah and you dont need to go to a hospital unless there is an issue. Then you do what a mw would do and call an ambulence. You can buy kits online and send for the birth certificate without a doc or mideife. I will have to find the website we ordered our birh kit from.

I know of three women on here who have had them. I will PM you their links.

It's just really frustrating because I just switched up to a place closer to me. The first midwife from the group that I met with didn't even mention it and then at my last appointment the second one I met with told me I have to pay in advance. I have another appointment in a week and a half so I'm going to talk to the third midwife I haven't met yet and hopefully get everything straightened out and discuss my options
If I did it myself I'd still rent a tub and order a birth kit though.

That's ridiculous. If you had to have it paid upfront, they should tell you as soon as they first meet with you. Most people can't pull that much money out of thin air..

Was that a home birth midwife? Do you have insueance? If I could go back I almost would have opted out of hiring a midwife since we didnt really need her anyway. I mean she was helpful after the birth but it ended up unassisted anyway. So the $300 I spent on the birth could have easily been spent on other thigs. Dont get me wrong I love my midwife.. but it delt like a waste of money.

Also do you or your birth partner have any talents or trades? A lot of midwives will barter services.

Ikr? And especially since I switched to them halfway through my pregnancy. Idk the first one said they like a deposit and that they just hold us to our word and basically leave it in our hands to pay them when our insurance company sends us the check.
The second one said it has to be payed in advance and they need a deposit asap and can make a payment plan but even if I did a payment plan it would be close to $1k/ month.
I'm hoping the third one can give me another choice

You need to do lots of research. figure out the supplies you will need, such as sterile gloves, those giant pads to lay on after, something sterile to tie off umbilical cord, and to cut cord. Are you going to do a water birth, or on couch or bed? Make sure everything is where you can quickly set up. Have a phone and a witness at the birth. I believe you need a witness for birth certificate.
Also be willing to give up on unassisted birth if anything is high risk for this particular pregnancy.
You won't need to go to hospital right away if you and baby are healthy unless you need roghram shot. You can wait couple days to rest with your newborn before going to hospital to start the well visits. You will need to fill out paper work with your witness so your child can have a SS card and birth certificate within 5 weeks of giving birth.
