wow. I had the same issue with the pit.
My water broke at home. When I got to the hospital I was dilated to a 4. I was only a two earlier that morning, so obviously it was progressing on it's own. They kept pushing the pitocin at me. I told them no. My epidural didn't work, so they asked me if I wanted something to "take the edge off." I was in so much pain at that time I agreed. I should have asked exactly how strong it was (but I wasn't thinking very clearly at the time) because they gave me stadol, and it made me effed out of my mind. Apparently, at some point I told them it was ok to give me the pitocin. I have no recollection of telling them that, I was very against "rushing" it.
They must have given me a lot, because the contractions came on so hard and fast I could barely breath. I went from a 4 to a 10 in 20 minutes, no joke.
My whole labor was 8 hours, from the time my water broke (at home) until he was born.
I was quite pissed about the whole thing.
