Can you find a midwife the will let you pay once it will go through on your insurance? My midwife is being very flexible with payments. She is actually letting us do smaller, longer payments.

Well the first midwife told me that I could do that. Then the second one told me the complete opposite. So I'm waiting for my appointment in 9 days to talk to the third midwife in the group and get the full story.
Otherwise I'll ask how much they charge just for the birth and see if one of them is willing to do that.
If not, I'll look around for other places.
I might find a midwife that does hospital births to go to for now and then just do the birth at home by myself...I really don't know. I guess we'll see how it goes at the appointment.

I would definitely explore your options. We originally went to a midwives group that also had a birth center, then I found my midwife who is so much more personable, yet professional. You should be able to find someone whose priority is to help you versus getting your money.

Yeah I think I need to look for one that works alone if these ones won't work with me.

I went to a group before with my first two pregnancies and hated it. The third one was just one midwife and the entire experience rocked. I didnt know healthcare had a personable side until I started seeing her. I hope you can find someone who is more worth your time. I loved my midwife. I do not have an issue with UC at all. But it has it's risks. If you google unassisted birth there is a forum dedicated to UC. It is a private forum. They will appeove you later but here are lots of moms who had UCs. I used to be in there because UC was my original plan, but since I was on medications I felt more comfortable having a midwife at the birth (which still didn't happen lol)

Although I will say the postpartum care was amazing. They hung out for a good 4 or 5 hours, cleaned up, took care of us. They were great.

I'm SO RELIEVED!
I called the midwife who had told me I needed to pay in full before the birth and told her that we were confused and if that was the way it had to be then I wouldn't be able to afford them.
She told me as long as I sign an agreement saying that I'll pay them in monthly payements after the birth IF for some reason my insurance doesn't cover it that we should be fine but she needs to talk to the other 2 midwives just to make sure they agree.
She also told me that my insurance is normally fast, has no issues and covers 80% so YAYYYYY

Yay I. Happy for you. Usually they will work with you because they don't want women having babies unassisted.

I'm just so relieved. After we talked I told her I had been looking unto UC and she said it's a great way to have a child but midwives make you more comfortable.
I've just been having such bad luck with $$ lately so this is a huge weight gone.

I think I'd be afraid to have an unassisted home birth. I'm not against home birth in general, but I'd like to have someone there - *just in case*.

You could take the baby to the hospital after birth, if need be, but I'd feel more comfortable have someone there that could help immediately if something went wrong.

Just out of curiosity, did you have a bad experience with a hospital birth in the past?

Yep.
And since I went overdue with my son its more likely I'll go over again and that's where hospitals push pitocin, epidurals, and c sections  
I'd rather be at home where I can have everything my way and nobody pushing anything I don't want in my face.
At the hospital they were extremely rude to me if I didn't want what they wanted me to have (pitocin even though my water broke and I went from 0 to 10 and pushed my son out in 7 1/2 hours and an epidural which I asked them to not even offer it to me).
I ended up getting the epidural because I felt like I had no choiice, and they made me stay in the bed the entire 7 1/2 hours with monitors on me because they wanted them there " just in case" they needed to give me pitocin  
I was in too much pain and too flustered to argue with anyone, so this time I just need to be in a completely different setting.

wow. I had the same issue with the pit.

My water broke at home. When I got to the hospital I was dilated to a 4. I was only a two earlier that morning, so obviously it was progressing on it's own. They kept pushing the pitocin at me. I told them no. My epidural didn't work, so they asked me if I wanted something to "take the edge off." I was in so much pain at that time I agreed. I should have asked exactly how strong it was (but I wasn't thinking very clearly at the time) because they gave me stadol, and it made me effed out of my mind. Apparently, at some point I told them it was ok to give me the pitocin. I have no recollection of telling them that, I was very against "rushing" it.
They must have given me a lot, because the contractions came on so hard and fast I could barely breath. I went from a 4 to a 10 in 20 minutes, no joke.

My whole labor was 8 hours, from the time my water broke (at home) until he was born.

I was quite pissed about the whole thing.

Ah, my mw is against UC simply because it messes with the national statistics for home birth and quite a few actually do have complications :/ she just said it is kinda dangerous.

I got checked around 7 or 8pm and I was 0cm. I felt no contractions at all until after my water broke at 2am and by 9am I was a 10 all on my own. I still can't believe they wanted to give me pitocin
