9 day old problems pooping...

She has been trying for a few hours... Is there anything I can do??

take her temp rectally with a good amout of vaseline on the thermometer is she is formula fed a half teaspoon dark karp syrup per 2 oz formula in her bottle a couple times a day if she ebf try karo in an expressed bottle

Help her push by pushing her legs like bicycle kicks.

can't you consult her doctor?

when my mom babysat while i was younger, i remember her using a qtip to rub around the baby's butthole (didn't really know what else to call it haha), it encourages pooping and it worked everytime.

I've tried the bicycle kicks and rubbig her belly...i have also tried the qtips as that is what my mom suggested...and its sunday, her doctor is closed i would havr to go to the er...thats why i thought id try this first...I just gave her some gas drops to see if that would help...

Is she in pain?

She's just really fussy and grunting and trying to push

prune juice works wonders! She should go to the bathroom within a few hours! 1/2 oz to an 1 oz is all it takes!

yes, that's why if you don't find some sort of relief tonight, def call the doctor tomorrow.

So she finally pooped yesterday and went through 3 diapers before I got one to stay on...last night and today the same issues...she wants to poop so bad but can't...I called the doctor and their not worried cuz her poop was still normal...once it came.

However, I do not agree with this! She should not have to push and be in discomfort for 5+ hours just to poop. Do you think if we tried a different formula that would help? Like a sensitive stomach one? Or do you agree with the nurse? The soonest they could get us in is Wednesday afternoon, but I turned it down cuz we see her doctor thurs morning for her 2 week...

i think many formula fed babies have problems with constipation often. i could be wrong though, i'm not a mom...yet  

BUT i'd definitely just wait until you see her doctor to ask what he thinks you should do. don't go switching her formula until he gives you the ok just because there might be like...an easing into it process that you have to do? idk. i'm just rambling

I've had 4 and none of them ever have.

She might be grunting and fussing for another reason. It could be her tummy itself. My DD did a lot of grunting and fussing and only pooped once a day, but she had silent reflux and that's what was causing it. If your baby is pooping and it's not thicker than peanut butter, then there isn't a constipation issue.

Keep in mind, too... 9 days old is still really young. Your baby is still trying to adjust to life on the outside. It could be over-stimulation. When a baby is over-stimulated, they will grunt, cry, fuss, pull their legs up to their tummy, etc. So the first thought is that the baby is in pain. In reality, she doesn't know how to soothe herself as she is so used to being rocked, held, shushed, etc 24/7 in your womb. You might just have to help her.

The only reason I thought constipation is because of how tight her stomach is...we have done all of those things to soothe her...last night the only way she would sleep is if I held her so she was siting up almost folded in half...and once she poops she calms down a bit
