Opinions on the name Kynan

Kynan (kye-nen) is a Welsh name that means Chief.
What do you think of it? Why?

(It's on our back-up list (#6), not likely to be our choice, but we're keeping a few unique options as potential back-ups as 'just in case' choices, and wanted to get some opinions on it.-- not a lot of opinions expressed about it out there in the internet ether.)

that's what i thought at first, i like the way it sounds but just looking at it, it looks like your misspelling keenan.. i know you're not but yeah haha

I don't like it. Just seems awkward to me. Almost sounds like you wanted to use "Keenan" but, not.

It also sorta reminds me of an ethnic food. Like "Mom is making Kynan for dinner"

Honestly I'm not a fan of the name.

The Welsh language doesn't have a K and I can't find that name on any reliable site.

I think you mean Cianan? There is no K in the Welsh language.

After looking it up, almost everything I found says that "cyn" prefix means chief for Welsh names.

I found some info about it on several sites -- http://www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Kynan is one of them

I'm guessing the 'kyn' is a variation of 'cyn' that has been brought into the English language and changed over time, just like happens with a lot a Gaelic names (i.e. Cian becoming more common as Kian)

I prefer Kenan.

I guess I'm not too surprised that this name isn't getting a lot of love. Glad to confirm that. It'll probably still remain on our back-up list, but it may be slowly moving downwards.
