"Favoring"

Did your toddler favor their left or right hand? Do you think 18mo is too early to tell if they will be a leftie or righty?

Around 12 months LO would favor his right hand, he would throw with his right, pick up with his right, suck his thumb with his right hand lol

They say you can't tell until around 3 from everything I find, but my younger one is approaching 3 & my older one is 5 1/2 & they are both definitely lefties & I thought so by that age (18 months). You obviously can't tell for sure, but I thought so...and I wasn't predisposed to thinking they'd be lefties. Both Dh & I are righties & only about 12% of the population is left handed (I looked it up back when I thought my 1st was) and the odds of us having 2 lefties is not at all high - so I am sure I wasn't assuming my 2nd would be either. In fact I thought for sure he wouldn't be.

I'd say too early but I'm sure all kids are different.

My son does EVERYTHING with his left hand. If you hand him a fork or a crayon, he will take it from his right hand to his left. That's the thing that makes me think he will be a lefty. SO and I are both righties. I just wonder if thats something to do with genetics or it just...happens.

With my boys my family started making bets on which hand they would use when they were about a year old and using their hands a lot... My oldest NEVER used his left hand and if something was put into it he switched it to the right and continued what he was doing.. My youngest boy was the same way but would only use his left hand... Now at 2.5 and 4 they are still using their preferred hands to write, color, throw etc.
