It depends.
My mom is bad for this.
My gramma is in her 90's. & her eye sight is not perfect....so she accidentally bought Ds#1 a girls sweat suit (had punk stitching). I worked & my mom watched Ds so she said she would return it for me & get a boy's suit. So she did. Only problem? My mom got him a size 3 months - no joke. He was wearing 12-18 months. I said "Mom, ummmmm this is tiny, he can't fit into this." Her response? I know , but it's so cute & they didn't have one any bigger. WTF?

She is also brilliant at removing tags...nice.
So yeah - I do get annoyed with my mom. She was with him every day - she SHOULD know. Overall she is a great mom & gramma - she is NOT a good gift giver...she is annoying as all hell. She also does things like say "I know you don't like pink...but I thought this would be so pretty on you..." and you can guess what I got for my birthday. In general though, not so much. I tend to think if there is an err on size or age appropriateness it is not a big whoop. It happens.

this surprises me... the ones who said any mom would be ungrateful. Not true. Its never occured to me to not appreciate a gift. maybe if used, and too small...

but I know of many older ladies who ALWAYS buy big... they figure at the time of an event (shower, birthday, christmas) the child will get multiple gifts, and unable to use them all, and purposely get something for the child to grow into to use later.

I've always appreciated it.. and followed suit. If I buy for a new baby.. I usually buy at least 6-9 months if not larger. Babies get more newborn clothing than they can possibly wear.

I have clothes for my daughter that we're just now pulling out.. she's in a 3-4T, and I've had them since she was born. I'm sure they were found really cheap, clearance.. and much nicer than what the gift giver could afford for a regular price item. I apprecaite it.

It is the thought that counts. If someone complained to me about a gift I gave them, they wouldn't be getting anymore gifts from me!

lol. some situations explained here are beyond annoying, but i dont think it's right to be upset at that act. Sure, be upset at the person for being an chronic ninny but not at the act of the wrong gift.
My MIL used to do it often it had been a loooooong time since she had a baby to buy for. she is better now. Her gifts were just donated or sotered for a later day.

Cool...... If someone is going to waste both your and their time to ask you what the child could use and what their sizes are it is beyond annoying to get nothing that you suggested. Yup you can always return/exchange it but I'm definitely not keeping it if its not cute.

Lol, I can ask what size someone is wearing and forget 2 minutes later.
Example being I asked a friend what size her son wore on November 24th because I planned to get him an outfit for Christmas. Went to Wal-Mart this recent Thursday and already forgot. My guesstimate was a size too big, I had to come home and wait for her to get online and ask her again since her phone is disconnected.

Yes, it is. I rarely ever buy age appropriate toys for my kids, so I wouldn't even think twice about it for other peoples kids... Just out of habbit. Though I usually ask what their kids are into, and what size they are.

I guess I don't understand the concept of being upset over something that was given to you for free.... Like you don't have to have a baby shower or kids party. If its such am issue of disliking and being annoyed by gifts given then don't accept gifts and only buy things you want and like.

It's sad to me that so many people feel entitled to "gifts" like do you have nothing more important in life than stuff?

I can't figure out how anyone can be upset over it. I mean I always buy bigger in clothes for kids and do it on purpose, more time to grow into it.

But I also always include a recipt when giving a gift. And we also always get the recipt with my kids gifts for bday Christmas etc....

Age appreciate toys wouldn't bother me either. Lol I buy toys apove my kids ages all the time.

So I think it would be ungrateful to be upset over something so silly. Its a gift if you don't like it give it back.
