Hacking a phone

My friend thinks that her husband (soon to be ex) has been hacking her phone. She doesn't live with him anymore, and her phone is NEVER around him. I told her I think that he has to have access to the phone to be able to hack into it. Is there any other way he could hack into it? She says that he knows stuff he shouldn't know that is only on her phone.

is he good with computers? Smart phones are essentially handheld computers. Yes it is possible.

Do they share a plan? Some phone companies you can look at texts online if thy phone is on your plan.

What kind of phone? I know iPhones are pretty hard to hack..

She does have a smart phone, no they aren't on the same account, and he doesn't have access to her account. We think he has someone hacking her phone somehow. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys
