hand foot and mouth or chicken pox?
posted 8th Dec
DD is three. Tonight I noticed little red dots on her hands. They're raised but not blistered. Thinking chicken pox I looked at her stomach.and back- nothing! But she has blisters on the sides of her big toes. She has a few raised red dots on her left elbow and on both wrists too. A family friend reckons chicken pox can start anywhere but im sure I've heard somewhere that it starts on the stomach? I've not heard of anyone around our area (or at her playschool) having had hand foot and mouth though. Infact I only know what it is because of BG. Help anyone?x

Sounds more like HFM, I have always heard of CP starting on the abdomen.

Foot and mouth is pretty rare here these days so I would go with the chicken pox. To be honest though it could be something simple as excema or psoriasis. Why don't you call NHS direct see if they can send a doctor out or give you some advice?

They could just be bug bites. I freaked out for days because DS had things coming up on his hands and feet that looked like they could be HF&M but they turned out being ant bites. Stupid ants

See that's my thinking too, im gonna have to wait until the morning to get her looked at though noone seems to have heard of it over here though, my partner looked at me like I was mad. I don't even know how to treat it, is there something I should be doing? I know its highly contagious, I just don't know how long for... Anything you can tell me would be a huge help x

HFM and mouth is going around like crazy round this town. I just heard of 7 cases of friends kids. Check her mouth, my niece couldn't eat because her mouth blistered so bad.

Chicken pox is quite rare these days thanks to the vaccine. But it could still happen.
It does sound like HFM though. All of the chicken pox I've known about started on the abdomen

Nothing in her mouth at all, that's where I looked after seeing the blisters on her toes, pretty sure its not bug bites, she's not been anywhere to get bitten, its been.snowing here the last week. yeah it is really rare over here these days that's why im so unsure. She doesn't seem ill at all she's her usual self so im going to take her to the local drop in clinic in the morning x
