How did you decide to have more?

posted 8th Dec
After your first child how/why/when did you decide to have more?
What are the pros and cons of the age gap between your children?
I have 21m old twin boys. I would love to have more but the biggest worry for me is that I won't have enough time to spend with the boys..
If I wait till they are four like I originally planned I worry that it will be too big of a gap and they won't be close...

My 2nd child wasn't planned and was a surprise, but she is now 21 months and I'm 9 weeks pregnant with our 3rd. The gap between my first and second is 3 years and 5 months. I knew that I wanted our 2nd and the next one to have about a 2 year gap or so.

Mallory and this baby will be 2 years and 4 months apart, so I think it's great. Take into account that a pregnancy is 9 months, so while 21 months seems young, they'll be pretty much 2.5 years old when the baby would come

We decided to have more because we both have stable jobs and can afford another child after wanting another for a year. We felt like my daughter needs a sibling, she is not around other kids as much as I would like. They will be almost 3 years apart-this baby is due in July, Harper will be 3 in September. We also chose this gap because me and my brother are 3 years apart and very close. My SO and his sister are 10 years apart. They are not close at all. I also wasn't going to wait ten years haha I think 3 years is good. You have a solid 3 years with your first child and by then they become a little more independent and are hopefully out of diapers!!

At first I only planned on having one kid but when DD turned 2 I changed my mind. I didn't want her to be an only child. We started TTC when DD was 3. This second WILL be my last.

My husband and I always said we wanted 2 children. I there's a 4 yr gap between my brother and myself and we had nothing in common, so I wanted them closer together in age.

We started trying when there would be at least a 2 yr gap between them.

My kids are 4 years apart and I love the age difference. If we decide to have a third I honestly don't think I'll want to start trying until DD is at least 3 (she's 1 1/2), though then the age difference between our first and third child will be kinda large.

For the age gap I just look atty the people I know. My sisters and I are 6 years apart. We always were fighting. None stop. My sisters boys are 4 years apart and when the youngest was born the oldest had bad issues.majorly jealous. My sil has her boys three years apart and they are better than my other nephews but fight a ton, and the older one bests up on the younger one. My ds is 16 months and we are going to start ttc in a month our Terri

We knew that we wanted more time between kids- I wanted to make sure our son was potty trained ad in preschool so he could take in the big brother big helper role. I knew we didn't want 2 in diapers and with my hands full with a newborn I knew I'd want my son to be as independent as possible. There are pros and cons to both short and long age gaps jut ask yourself what you want the most! I had terrible baby fever but I wanted to stick to the plan

Both were unplanned, just happened i suppose. They will be 5 years apart,i wishi had them close in age but i deff would not have been able to afford it so I'm glad we waited. My dh brothers are 2 and5 years apart they are all super close. I think my older son will be a wonderful brother but surprisingly he was a hoping for a sister.

Both of mine were unplanned. They are 21 months apart. And are best friends. I love how close they are. My next, wont be for a few more years. And im worried that whenever we do have another baby, there wont be a super tight bond like my other children have. But i know my girls will be big enough to help. In some ways. And i know theyll love the LO too. Just may not be "best friends" but you never know. They still might be

My sister and i are 5 years apart. We bonded really well with dance classes. Esp when we got older and did competition and were dancing together. It was a hobby that we both loved and enjoyed together..

My oldest two are 2 years apart, then there are 3 1/2 years between my second and third. Now my third and fourth will be 2 years apart. I love the 2 year age gap. They fight a lot, but they're best friends, too. They look out for each other.

We didn't really have a method to deciding when we wanted to try for another one...just decided we were ready to add on to our family.

That's funny. Dd wanted a brother. She cried when we said he was having a sister!!! Now she's thrilled though. She even drew her in a family picture at school   my heart melted.

I Like the 18 Month age gap, however I also think that a Mamma(& her Body mostly) really needs at least that Full Year between Pregnancies. so the best you would hope for would be 22months if you got pregnant immediately on your Child's first Birthday.
For us we "Set In Stone" that on their 1st Birthday we start Discussing another, & do the discussion(even if it's a foregone conclusion) for 3 Months before we "Allow" the "Let's Have Another" Decision to be accepted. End result is that our Daughter's EDD was Our Son's 3rd Birthday after nearly a Year of TTC.
Right now, we're Not necessarily trying to Prevent, but not (officially) actively TTC, but if we did manage to catch this Month 3.0 will be Due for our Daughter's 3rd Birthday.
I Suspect that if we did catch, Baby will be a Boy with an EDD the same as our Son, & also be 5 Days late(both my Babies were), on his 6th Birthday!
