re: Breastfeeding problems

posted 8th Dec
Don't let them convince you to formula feed your baby if you don't want to. All throughout my pregnancy I had a smurf ton of leaking so when I had my baby I freaked out because I couldn't hand express colostrum anymore. He nursed very frequently so I felt bad because it seemed like he was going hungry but in all actuality baby was just taking all of the colostrum. If u saw even a drop from your boob then he's getting what he needs. He pooped more than 6 times within his first 24 hours of life & peed a couple times. When he stopped going that often I was scared but I kept nursing until the day I was discharged & that's when my milk came in. It was hard keeping my boobs from being engorged & I even had a clogged duct by the end of the week. If there's anything I've learned. Its that BF-ing takes patience. My son was born 11.19.12 & has been EBF since day 1. Don't give up! The bond you will develop with your baby after some successful BF-ing is mindblowing. The weight is nothing to worry about either. My son was 19.5 inches long & went from 6lbs 14 oz at birth to 6lbs 1 ounce when we left the hospital wednesday(I was induced Monday & had him at 4:17pm so he wasn't even 48 hours old when we left)

They're not trying to convince me to formula feed at all...in fact everyone here is super excite that I'm so determined to breastfeed. It's just the lack of food going into little man's belly they're worried about. They want to make sure he's getting enough nutrition, so they're just giving him a tiny bit of formula to tide him over while my milk is coming in.
A little more came out while I pumped after I woke up...not a lot, but it was encouraging knowing I'm not completely dried up

Its good that they are encouraging you to do what you want. Babies don't need a lot to eat at first because they have really small stomachs but just keep trying! Your milk will come in soon. Congratulations on your gorgeous baby too

I was barely getting a couple drops out last night...it was bad.   But today it seems to be going better...I just fed him and pumped to get my supply started...and enough came out that a little dripped off the breast shield...which is the first time that's happened.
And thank you! He's definitely got his parents wrapped around his little fingers already
