We've tried to hand express...but nothing comes out. Only outcome is a hurt boob and a hungry baby

Today he's 3 days, and my breasts aren't even a little stiff...she says the feel like what they should feel like after he's nursed and gotten everything out. She's just trying to help little man get something his belly

It just sounds like you are getting some unusual info from them bordering on causing all sorts of unnecessary worries. Mine was 6lbs 3 oz at birth & 21 1/2 inches long & he went down to 5lbs 6 oz without anyone freaking out or making an issue of his length versus weight. I've never heard of anyone using the length as an issue regarding weight.

Well, in my opinion, stop expressing, it's virtually impossible to get colostrum out. You need to make sure he is positioned correctly at the breast. He is brand new and needs to learn how to nurse and so do you. Give yourself time, surround yourself with knowledgeable people-La Leche League is everywhere, and keep nursing him. He might act hungry but he might just need to suckle for comfort. Try putting your pinky finger in his mouth and see if he gets comforted. May be he needs to sleep, again, he is brand new. Or try swaddling, dim the lights and relax. As long as he has wet diapers, he will be fine. Don't let the nurses bully you, they studied medicine, not breast feeding. Good luck to you!

You'd be suprised if you knew some of the "moms" I know   there's just some people who should be born sterile.
I've sorta talked to La Leche...but I wasn't really awake... lol
As for his diapers, he had one wet diaper that had a tiny bit of poo in it...but that was it, and that was about 6-7 yesterday morning. The day before he had like 5 poo diapers and peed on his daddy twice...so idk what's going on

Your breasts don't need to be stiff to have milk in them, if anything, that might be a sign of a clogged duct. The more you nurse, the more milk you make. The flatter your breasts feel, the higher in calories your milk is-I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth

Another thing about dirty diapers is that breastfed babies may not poop every day, simply because breast milk is getting absorbed almost 100% by baby's system. BF books say that some babies can go without pooping for up to 2 weeks. as long as his peeing, he's getting all he needs.

It's normal to worry, I worried the first 12 months of nursing. Just keep doing what you are doing, make sure there is no pain when he is on the breast. If there is, then re-position him. it should not hurt.

Also, watch your baby, not the clock. He might be nursing more some days, cluster feeding at night, etc. There are really no set times in nursing in the beginning, eventually after a month or two, he will get into a schedule and nurse every couple of hours.

I've been able to hand express little amounts of colostrum out...but now there's nothing...so yeah :/

I usually end up falling asleep when he's nursing...it's the only time I can fall asleep and there's almost nothing I can do to stay awake while he does it. It's kind of annoying actually. I literally start nodding off and wake up because my head is falling almost every time he nurses. He's not getting breast milk when we feed him with the syringe...it's formula   But it's better than nothing
She had me pump for 10 minutes before feeding him, we fed him, and then 5 minutes after...and I had a few dribbles come out...enough to make my nipples damp and leave a little ring in the pump where my nipples were.   But it's better than nothing I guess

He only peed twice yesterday....that's part of the problem.

It doesn't hurt unless he bites the tip of it....which he does when he gets shocked and he's nursing...but that's about it. They're not really sore afterwards either

I watch the clock a little to make sure he eats every couple of hours, and because they ask me how long I log the time into my brain when I look at the clock...but I don't watch the clock. Honestly today I didn't really pay attention at all since I was tired and all he wanted to do was nurse. I just let him nurse if he would

It's not though - babies only pee about however many days old they are - I swear. So 1 on day 1, 2 on day 2..now it does sound like today he isn't wetting though?

It's only 6:14AM here...and I'm just comparing it to the 6th when he had 5 pooed in diapers and 2 peed in and 2 out of diaper pees.
I have no idea what's going on with him   I'm gonna try getting like an hour of sleep before the nurse comes in to help me pump again...hopefully things go better when I wake up.
