My epidural didnt work...Ways to deal with natural delivery.

Ok October 27th 2011 I had my daughter Ryalynn & I am now 25 weeks along with our second blessing Kayleigh. I was induced at 42 1/2 weeks with ryalynn. At the hospitol I used you can only get an epidural from 4-6 ... it being my 1st pregnancy & at a 4 in some pain I said yes...
~They tried 6 times to get it to work & it caused me more pain then than labor did!~
So I went on for 23 hours at a 4 & in 5 min jumped to a 10 & 2 min later she was here! I knew labor wasnt going to be fun, but I though there would be SOME way of coping with the pain. So now that im 25 weeks I am trying not to over think this, but I know that pain medication is out of the question..
I would like to know some good ways of coping with pain during a natural delivery. I was thinking about water birth but no hospitol here does that. Thanks in advance!

I've had two natural labor and deliveries.

With Addison, I was in labor for just over 72 hours because I dilated slowly, got to the hospital at 6cm, then labored the last 7 hours in the hospital. It was tiring and painful and nothing helped except deep breathing and staying calm. I didn't scream while pushing and she came out calm, and face up.

With Asher, I was in labor for 6 1/2 hours, got to the hospital at 8cm, and he was born 30 minutes later. I'll admit I was a little more vocal with Asher, lol. What helped me this time around was Mike rubbing my lower back in the hospital bed, which felt great!! And deep breathing.

With both babies, water broke while pushing.

With this baby they put the epideral in wrong and it never went to my bottom half, by time the guy got there to fix if I was too far...I found a bath and the breathing to work the best...that and for Some reason staring at one of the nurses lol

My first was a natural delivery and I plan to do the same with my second you can try a focal point, relaxing music, stress balls, labor ball you can bounce and rock on, walking in-between contractions, get a doula she or he can do some acupuncture on your lower back that will help ease your pain, meditation lol there is a lot of ways but in all honesty I just used the ball, held my breath a hair and clenched my jaw whatever works at that moment is the best thing. They also have IV meds you could have don’t know if they would work.

Husband coached childbirth, but the couch doesn't have to be husband! It can be anyone you're close with! http://www.bradleybirth.com/
ETA- I'm reading the book currently and it is an amazing read! I recommend it!

They didn't give me an epidural but rather a morphine/Demerol shot and 2 fentanyl shots throughout my hardest hours of labor. They took the edge off enough that I could survive! My pain tolerance is pretty low ha!

If you can have I water birth I suggest going for it! It helps immensely for the pain. I went into the tub at 8cm and stayed there for the next 4 hours until DD came out sunny-side up.

When I knew labor started, I went on ahead and took a shower and that hot water on you feels great. I'm sure it was better in a tub.

I wonder if a hospital doesn't have a tub if they would let you bring your own? I know you can rent or buy them for home use.

I had my first two weeks ago completely naturally. Laboring in the shower was a Godsend for me.
My husband and doula rubbing my back and shoulders was super helpful too. For me, personally, being vocal worked. My throat was sore the next day, sure, but it definitely helped during the contractions.
If you can, I'd definitely look into hiring a doula. She was an amazing help to me and my husband.
Good luck!
