Secret Santa... would you be pissed if...

A friend of mine has been contacted and notified that she is receiving 2 gift cards this holiday season so she can get her kids some Christmas presents.

This friend of mine is dirt poor and her kids would not be getting ANYTHING without this generous act of kindness...

My friend, in return, says she is going to buy gifts for other children with the gift cards and donate it all..


This has me so pissed. Her kids NEVER get anything. They wear rags and have hardly any toys or nice things. She is always complaining to me about how they never have the money to buy the kids toys or clothes. Her 5 year old son has only received 1 birthday gift in his entire life.

If I was the one giving them the gift cards I would seriously be pissed if she used them to donate to other families. They are for HER family, primarily for her kids.

Am I wrong here???

It is annoying but Cplife isn't all about the amount of gifts you get.

I mean, it's "her" gift so she can do whatever she wants with it I guess. If I wanted something to be for her kids, I'd just get the kids specific gifts and give the presents to the kids directly.

I'd be pissed to. Why doesn't this person just buy her kids clothes/toys and send them instead of money?

Me personally i would give my children there toys first then i would donate if theres leftovers.I honestly dont feel too bad because everytime i go to walmart.I always donate to the guy dressed as santa.The money goes to boys and girls with family who's not that fortunate.I at least donate 5$ at a time.

And it's lovely that she wants to pay the sentiment forward. Maybe she doesn't want her children growing up believing gifts are a necessity. Maybe she's proud and only wants to give the kids what she earns. No matter, it's no one's business.

Hmm that is a little odd. I think to her it sounds good what she's doing but she has to realize someone went out of their way to get her children a gift. If she didn't want to receive anything she should let people know, especially since people have told her beforehand. And it makes it even worse if her children are going without.

It's good that he wants to help others. But I feel like she should get her kids some clothes with it.

This. It's not about what you have, it's about who you're with. I think her paying it forward like this is sweet.

I told her she should be thankful for the gift and use it for what it is intended for (the guy called her and asked what her kids wanted for Christmas and she didn't want to tell him... she said she'd like the gift card for them instead).

I told her if she wants to pay it forward, she can donate items at a time when her family can afford it. Her son has even been sent home from school because he smelled and had holes in his pants at the crotch. It's ridiculous. This year she sold her vicodin just so she could get him a small action figure for his birthday.

The thing I don't understand is if her children are really wearing raggedy clothing and have no toys then what is the message she is trying to teach, that other children deserve nice things but not them? I would make sure my children are taken care of first and then take care of others.

exactly. I told her charity starts at HOME. I told her that she should donate at a time when her family has everything they need and can afford to do so.
