Ask for help if you need it, and try not to leave the hospital without understanding how to have your LO latched on properly. Use lanolin as much as you need to, it's a life saver! Trust your body. It is very unlikely that you aren't making enough, even if your little one is nursing 24/7, that's normal!

Read up and educate yourself. Lack of knowledge is one of the main reasons why people fail.

Well, I really want to start my baby out on breast milk..if all possible.
I have so many people telling me they don't think I'm going to be able to do it because they couldn't do it and constantly telling me how hard it is..yada yada. I just want to hear some good tips from people on they made it through!

It wasn't hard for me. I latched Isaiah on as soon as he came out, he was a natural. If anything, it was a little draining because he was constantly nursing for a straight month.

People used to tell me that too! Mostly my MIL cause she never breastfed her kids. It can be hard at the beginning but don't give up!

You can do it. I think the key is just to be determined, especially those first few weeks when it can be difficult. It's a new experience, it takes time to learn...or, for others, it happens instantly and it is totally perfect right away. I've had both experiences.

It's only hard the first week then it's amazing. You bond and save money. A lot of ppl give up too easy.

Tell them to shut up.

Asher had been a pro at latching from the beginning. He's just over two months and is doing great. I will say, I made the mistake of pumping when I was engorged after my milk came in, and we fed him from a bottle for about 3 days. He developed a preference for the bottle and wouldn't latch anymore, I was in tears because he wouldn't latch. I remembered hearing about nipple shields, so Mike ran out and got a Medela nipple shield for me. So I've been BF him with that on and we're doing great.

eh, it can be hard i'm not going to lie. Doesn't mean it WILL be and even if it is, if you're determined you can do it. Also, if the hospital tries to get you to supplement with formula... Don't as long as your LO is having wets/stools in their diaper. They tried to get me to supplement because I had inverted nipples, and i was like smurf no. I demanded if they wanted me to supplement i would only do it by pumping. They insisted I wouldn't have milk, but when I got the pump out I had milk and shut them the hell up. And I ended up using a nipple shield for like a week, totally fixed the inverted nipple problem.

like everyone I've come in contact with is like "oh I did it for a day and couldn't do it anymore" then u have people who tell me that "they didnt make enough milk..the baby was starving" , but I've been told your body makes enough to keep the baby satisfied.. I also have a breast pump..so if you pump the milk out to give to the baby will your body still keep producing enough?

The more you pump, the more you'll produce. But the baby can get more out than a pump.
