back to back miscarriages?

posted 7th Dec
anyone else have them? i'm just curious what comes next. i had a miscarriage Sept. 26 @ 5 weeks, then got pregnant not too long after and then miscarried again on December 1 @ 7 weeks.

my midwife said she can refer us to a high risk doctor to check out my body and make sure there is nothing wrong. anyone else go through this? i'd like to know the steps they usually take.

TIA!

Did she mention progesterone at all?

I had three miscarriages and a chemical in just over a year. I was already seeing an RE who ordered an RPL (repeat pregnancy loss) panel. It's a whole bunch of bloodwork they do to find causes like clotting disorders and such. I was found to be insulin resistant but do not believe that was the cause for my losses. Good luck. I hope you get some answers.

not too much, she prescribed it to me, but then tried to check my cervix, and said there was too much blood and the progesterone wouldn't have helped this last time. so i'm not sure, maybe the new doctor will suggest it too?

I had to be on progesterone because this is an IVF baby, and I was on progesterone for all of my losses as well (3/4 of those were also IVF babies). Baby aspirin is typically part of the protocol for IVF until getting a positive beta but for this pregnancy I continued to take it after even though my RE told me to stop. I believe I have an undiagnosed clotting disorder (some are difficult to diagnose) and I believe the baby aspirin is the only reason I have made it past 6 weeks. My OB and peri both say it can't hurt, only help.

how would you be able to tell if you have a clotting disorder? can the doctor test for that?

Insulin resistant is pre-diabetic, with out of control blood sugar levels that can cause a MC.

Yes it's a series of blood tests. Autoimmine disorders can also cause clotting issues and are also diagnosed via blood test. They're all part of a standard RPL panel.

okay, im sure they will do that, at least im hoping they do! it's hard going through all this after having a totally normal and healthy pregnancy, and now i feel like my body is failing me. i just hope they can help us have another healthy one!

My sugar levels were never out of control. There have been some studies linking insulin resistance to miscarriage but not back to back to back like mine. My peri agrees that IR was likely not the cause.

I have had a total of 5. Typically the Dr will not do any testing until after 3 in a row. That is because if you get pregnant too soon (based on your body not a time line), it might not be able to sustain a healthy pregnancy. Also, the m/c's are early so at that point they aren't terribly worried. That is because the average woman has 3 m/c's in her life time and many don't realize it! Those that TTC are always aware

I might suggest that you speak with an OBGYN about your situation and try to get a refferal to a RE if you feel like there is something more to it.

I know your frustration and your pain. Keep telling yourself it is nothing you did and there was nothing you could have done to prevent it. ~hugs

I haven't yet had a successful pregnancy but I have to jump through super hoops to achieve the pregnancies I have, only to lose them. It's hard. So sorry you are going through this.

I've had seven back to back and then another after my daughter. They ran every test they could think of but could never figure out what caused it. With my daughter I used loads of progesterone cream and baby aspirin because every doctor I ever saw had a "Well we can't figure it out, so we will just wait and see" attitude. I think the aspirin helped. Not sure if the cream did, but if I ever find myself pregnant again I will do both again to be safe. Good luck. I know it's hard.
