So just found out

posted 7th Dec
That insurance companies won't cover circumcision anymore, unless it is medically needed. Why? It is going to cost 400 dollars to get him circumcise. They said that insurances stopped paying because people aren't doing it anymore. Why would people do that it is something that is needed. Has anyone else heard this?

It's not needed.

ETA but no, I thought it was covered. I wouldn't know though since I didn't circ my son and won't circ this one either.

It isn't needed. It's elective, which is why many are not covering it anymore. They found that the potential benefits are not enough to suggest doing it routinely.

It is not needed for every little boy. Some boys do go on to have to be circumcised but across the board, it is not needed.

And you know how insurance is...they will do anything to get out of paying for things.

Talk to whomever is doing it (sometimes it's the pedi, sometimes the OB) and figure out if they bill or expect payment. Our second's circ was billed to us.

ahaha!

yeah. I totally just wanted Shenasmurfn's, but Mara allows no Shenasmurfn's!! Despite all the names with bitch and dick and whatnot, no other version of the Shenasmurfn's was allowed.

We paid $200 out of pocket for each of our son's to be circumsized.

It is considered a "cosmetic procedure", which is why insurance and Medicaid do not cover it.

It will cost you more if the circ him at the hospital after he's born, just FYI.
So if you REALLY want him to be circ'd, then i suggest getting it done at the Dr's office. Most Dr's office's charge less IF you pay on the day the procudure is done.

It's not needed and i think the reason they stopped is cause it is a cosmetic surgery,
