Checking your Cervix.

This is stemming from a few posts I have seen about the subject.

Now I have no experience in this matter at all and wouldn't even know what to feel for.

But I heard that it isn't safe to check yourself? So educate me please of it all. =)

It's just that it's easy to introduce infection. If you know what you're doing and are properly washed/sanitized then it's fine.

most people don't know what to feel for, some dont wash hands before and can get infections. if you know how to do it properly, go ahead

I have DH check because it sort of freaks me out lol! But it is OK to do (I mean a penis goes in there lol!). You just have to wash your hands really well before or wear gloves, like the kind doctors wear.

I have checked myself once and that was more than enough. You can tell where/what it is because it is as far in your vagina as you can go and you will feel a small opening in the middle of it.

Yeah, but how many people wash their husband's penis before intercourse? Having sex can be just as germy.

LOL, that's a damn good point. Now I feel weird that I make him wash before oral, but not sex.

The idea kinda creeps me out. But I feel it also wouldn't hurt to be more educated about my body. I will admit I'm a little clueless when it comes to my anatomy.

This is going to sound freaking retarded, but when my ob checked me last week before she could get a good feel on my cervix goes oh wow there's her little noggin...   Now I deffinately don't want anything going up there. I'd be terrified to touch her head....

I always make my DH wash before oral. I thought I was weird for it, lol.

The doctors explained to my husband how to do it he finds it cool. They said the cervix feels like you are puckering our lips to kiss someone. So my husband last night because I have been having a lot of painful contractions lately checked it out and said he can feel the babies head lol and he moved it from him and that it wasn't hard to find when it was the first time he tried and that he can tell that I have definitely opened more. I dont think its not safe to check your cervix I just find it hard to do it myself, with the big belly in the way.

I actually make dh wash it for oral too. Who likes sweaty, salty dick?

As others have said, it can introduce germs. Also, because of fingernails, you risk scratches and things that can also introduce germs. If you don't know what you're doing you really aren't going to know what to feel for. Lastly, it can irritate the cervix as well, which is why even Dr's don't like to check before labor starts often. Some women will seriously want to check multiple times a day. Since it doesn't tell you much anyways, I really think it's best to just leave it the heck alone, haha.

I think that would me me laugh lol! But I get freaked when I try to check myself and DH won't do it when I am pregnant because he is scared to like feel the baby's head or something.

I have him do it for NFP though to avoid pregnancy (or when we wanted a baby, to try). Since your cervix moves during your cycle.

My ob checked me last tuesday. It made me bleed a little.

Yep. Bleeding afterwards or in increase in contractions is common. I'll admit I am paranoid because my cervix sucks, haha. I prefer not to have anything smurfing with it when pregnant when at all possible.

However, part of the difference also can be that a penis is a sort of striking onthe surface action (which can still make you bleed or contract). Fingers, especially when trying to figure out what they're feeling, are more "probing" you know?

I don't think it's "bad" but I think 99% of the time there are more risks than benefits.
