Rolling Over at Night.

posted 7th Dec
My son is 6 months old; and almost EVERY time he sleeps he will roll on his stomach and fall back asleep. I don't know what to do. I mean during naps and before I go to sleep I just normally go back and keep checking him to make sure he is sleeping on his back and everything is good. But when I wake up in the morning, I will go in his room and find him asleep in his crib on his stomach. I have a baby monitor in his room to, so it's not like he wakes up in the middle of the night and rolls and then cries. I am guessing he just rolls over in his sleep. Any ideas I can do to make him stop; or if it's ok for him to be rolling and sleeping on his stomach? I worries me to death. Like if he rolls over and then puts his face down or something and then stops breathing... Maybe I am just over worrying.

It's fine. Let him sleep on his stomach.

If he's old enough to roll he's generally old enough to move his head if it were in a bad position.

Let him be. He likes sleeping on his stomach, so do I.

at 6 months, the risk of SIDS is drastically reduced.

You could try a positioner.

Same here.

If he can roll on his own, he will roll if he's not breathing. It's hard to keep them off their tummies if they decide to be tummy sleepers.

I don't think you're over worrying at all! SIDS or suffocation is seriously the scariest thing ever.

Anyway, if he can lift his head alright then I think it's fine. There really is nothing you can do to stop him. Just make sure he is on a firm mattress and has little to no bedding. My Son slept in a sleep blanket the first year of his life then after that he used a crochet blanket (with lots of holes). Also, make sure there is a nice flow of air in the room such as a ceiling fan.

I was told once they are old enough to roll over they are old enough to leave on their belly

At 6 mo any risk is reduced greatly. I would just look in on him through the night.

theres nothing you can do..as your child gets older he'll sleep whatever way he wants. i had an angelcare baby monitor to ease my worries..cause i'm a worrier as well. He has enough control at this point, that he should be fine. i think its better in my opinion, for them to sleep on their bellies when they are older cause at least you dont have to worry about them choking on spit or vomit.

When he does roll over and want's to put his head down he does put it to the side so he can breath and all. But it stilled worried me, I didn't know if he would be to sleep and forget it or something. Haha.

I cant see those being very handy once the child can pull themself up...they'd be tripping over it a faceplanting into the side of the crib.

This. My son started rolling onto his stomach around that time during the night too.
His favorite sleeping position now is on his tummy, feet underneath of him and butt up in the air, with his arms pulled underneath of him and his face straight down into the mattress lol
Just make sure you keep putting him down on his back.

There were no issues like that for us at all. Of course if there was, I would have reevaluated the situation. Every child is different.
