re: "Limited/Small Government" and Job Creation

Quoting TheNuge:" The government does that already. We have safety nets."

I know you don't advocate for removing said nets, however some do.

Good thing the government wasn't forcing you to work there. You had every right to find a new job. Nobody else should be blamed for that.

True. and, sometimes there arent any people dining so there isnt opportunity for tips. So, the wise server puts her application at a restaurant with higher volume. she may also want a better clientele if her current place has lousy tippers.
Servers are "in sales." Just like people selling cars or anything else, if people arent interested in your product or you suck, you dont make money. Lots of people are 100% paid by commissions.
Lots of people in trades only get paid when they complete a job. sure, they may charge $60/hr but the may not get many jobs.

I have never met someone who wants to remove all government welfare programs completely.

I think liberals like to pretend that's what republicans/conservatives want because it helps them feel all warm and fuzzy like they're the only ones who want to help the poor.

Depends I guess. I do think a lot of jobs that are currently offered at minimum wage are drastically underpaying for the amount of work involved, especially now that employers are more picky and want you to jump through hoops to get the job. I'm a photographer. I get a % of the amount a sell as compensation, but my base rate is minimum and I was required to have a full portfolio and a degree to get my job.

Even I say cut it by 47% and I'm a hardliner.

You haven't met my family ;-). I have a lot of "every man for themselves"ers.

Thanks for not being defensive in your answer, as I was simply trying to really see where you are coming from.

So, you are in sales?

I would be everyone for themselves if Americans weren't so entitled and needy. Quite a bit of population would die off quickly if they had to provide for themselves.

Yes. Hard market right now when you aren't given much flexibility. I do the newborn portraits in the hospital.

I don't think a casual debate is a reason to get bent out of shape and resort to smurf slinging

True, but i dont think many do. certainly not those who look at the value that having some programs provides for the country. my guess is that they dont see where and why they truly are needed.
That said, we need to scale WAY back on some programs.

Things really suck right now. It pains me, but I just hit "print" for some certified mail that i must send a tenant.
I just got off the phone with another tenant with a sob story. A third tenant just got a "call me" note on her door. I've never seen it so bad.

Wow, that's a little extreme.

Though, I think that even if the government completely collapsed and the safety net disappeared, you'd see communities come together and help the poor out.

I'm lucky though because my husband makes good money, so I do my job purely out of enjoyment. If it was more needed that I work, I would leave as I didn't go to school to earn minimum wage.

Yikes

We are closing on our condo in 2 weeks - which we plan to rent out. I can't wait til the sob stories start rolling in...
