Yeah its always the BG moms that share my posts and comment on it lol. But im glad they do since it carries out the discussion and i hope people read it. I know some have but there are a few I see who still half ass buckle in their kid. Shoulder straps completely off and chest clip at the belly   And ive come across people who have FF their kid in a carrier or FF them at 4 months old. People around here are so uneducated.

I take stuff very seriously and us up here in Canada with our -50 weather can't undress our children to take off their winter coats. I have never in my life heard of a child being ejected because of the jacket being on. If anything they have more padding. But I'm not taking my child's jacket off nor do I take my jacket off. Would and should be the same safety concern for older people as well on that. I also worked for a very busy towing company and we always got accident calls with children in it with no injuries and they had their jackets on in the seat.

And to put my 2 cents in. If I have to sign an "I wont shake my baby" form at the hospital it wouldn't be that absurd to throw in an "I'll use my car seat properly" form

Yes, a lab video would be MUCH more persuasive then a youtube video. Even if there is a possibility that it could happen, i wont put one on my LO, i'll do fleece coats instead.

This. I live in Maine and it gets well into the negative here as well and I don't think its fair to my child to take her jacket off. I always readjust and double check my straps but I wont take her jacket off.

The FF babies make me cringe! There's a few of my FB friends and BG friends who have already FF their babies. Most of them are around 16-18 months, bit FF way sooner then that (that's the ages now). There's one who's baby is 6 months old :/
IMO, you should RF as long as possible! DD will be RF way past two. She can crisscross her legs when the time comes. Same with DS

I wish they would have waited to show me. I did have a nurse show us how to put her in the seat and properly adjust it. They also had to come to our car and make sure the carrier was clicked in before we could leave nicu. I was so distraught trying to stop her from being sent to nicu after birth that I wouldn't have been able to concentrate on it before being discharged either. I think it should be something they show when your baby leaves or before you've given birth at your doctor's office. They could play it on a loop in the waiting room.

Also same as you I would like to see a lab test video other then a mom on you tube about car safety.

I just heard cases of children being ejected from their seat and car because they slipped out their snow suits/big jacket.

I think some coats are appropriate but it is best the have the straps as close to the childs chest as possible.

I think the car seat safety thing is actually more important then SBS. Thats just me though.
They did offer a CPR video too, that one wasn't required. I'm already certified and keep up on my certification, so I declined that one.

I'm from NH, actually just moved to AZ a year ago. As long as the straps are well adjusted and tightened, I see no problem in keep the jacked on. Especially since it gets so cold in the winter.

Thats crazy!

DS rear faced for what seems like forever. I actually just switched him to a high back booster and I feel so weird about it. But only because his 5 point harness and weighted seats expiration was up in a month (we've had it sinc ehe was born) and when we went to buy a new one a 5 point harness wasnt in our budget and he met the weight and age requirement for a highback booster.... Makes me nervous though...so used to him having a harness.

DD is 6 months and RFed and will be until she hits the weight or height limit for it.

Yep one girl i saw had her baby FF in a carrier and commented on the picture that he had to be facing that way or he would cry. And a lot of others commented saying their kid was the same way and they had to turn them. And then the girl said she turned her oldest at 6 months and was wanting to wait until then to turn the son. I'm like do these people not know the law?! She wasnt a friend of mine so I couldnt comment but it made me want to scream. And her 2 year old was in a booster with the seatbelt around her back. Ugh.

As for my kids, my oldest RF until 2.5 when she outgrew the seat RFing. And my son isnt 2 yet but he is close to outgrowing it RF so we're just going to get him another seat so he can RF longer.

I agree!
My old OB gave me seat safety packets. And I for sure read them!
I wish all doctors did that. I also was shown how to properly put DD in her seat when we were leaving. That was only because she BARELY got to go home since she was so tiny. They wanted to make sure it tightened enough for her. And told me about the chest clips.Thank God we were able to leave.

They just sent a CPR dvd home with us in our hospital gift bag. Personally I think stuff like that is something every parent should know and be certified before having a child. Not by law but they should want to.

I've been certified since before I had a child...I also know how to give cPR to a cat haha but IMO I think its something parents should want to seek out to have in the event they need to use it on a loved one.
