I don't know if there should be a class. It would be helpful BUT the question would be are people paying attention to the info. I think doctors giving out some info at first Doctor appt would be more beneficial then going to a class because its more one on one

I didnt have to do that, but I watched one in parenting class in high school.

I think that should be mandatory as well. You have around a 2 day stay in the hospital, A couple of hours dedicated to education wouldnt be a big deal.

Doctors arent specialists in everything though, and most wouldnt have time to explain all the correct info needed anyway.

My first was a hospital birth in Az I didn't have to watch anything.

Still my MW is at our house after birth 30-45 minutes after I deliver. I am not watching a video during that time.

Very true. There needs to be something or someone giving a little education before the baby goes home. Whether that's during pregnancy or after birth. It's very important, at least to me it is.
Educated my dad on seat safety when I noticed him puttong DD in wrong (when she was first born). He said back in the day 20+ years ago, there wasn't much concern about seat safety. So now he knows and I can trust him with DD in his car. MIL, is a whole different story :/

Same with me. When I first had DD, I didn't know much. Then I did my reading on seat safety when she was about a month or so old. Immediately the strap covers came off, head support and body support came off, I made sure she was 100% in correctly. And still do.
I've done that a few times on my FB. Only the BG moms (a few of them) agreed with my posts and knew that they were important.

See, i know for a fact i know bare minimum about putting LO in, other than what was explained to me when i went to the fire station and got my seat installed. I would love to learn more about it.

I don't get car seats and no poofy jackets..this doesnt make sense to me or DH. If the straps are properly adjusted around the size of the jacket then what is the issue. No matter the amount of force the belts are not capable of compressing the jacket enough for the child to be ejected from the seat, The jacket does not disappear once pressure is applied to the belts so there would not be enough room for the child to be flung from the seat. So I do not get why they show the videos where the child is wearing the jacket and then takes the jacket off and shows how loose the straps are. Well duh. Cause you just adjusted to suit the child wearing a large jacket. As long as straps are tightened and the chest buckle is across the chest then I personally don't think there is an issue with car seats and poofier jackets..

Just throwing this our there since its a carseat misuse D&D

I think if it's a class before you give birth yes. I had to watch a video on infant CPR before being discharged. The problem with this was I was discharged and my child was admitted to nicu about 10 minutes before the video. I cried the entire time and don't remember a thing. So I'd say no if they were going to do a video thing right as the parent is leaving.

Exactly! DD was in the nursery being treated for jaundice when they had me watch the SBS movie. So I had time on my hands to kill. I'd agree to watch a seat safety video if they provided one or if it was mandatory. I wouldn't refuse!

I believe they have done tests in a lab to show that it can compress the jacket enough to fling the child out. Coats like that are mostly air, so you apply pressure to it, and of course its going to deflate.

Maybe a hand out they have to sign after reading it? Or just a handout when we all get our "welcome" bags from the doctor.
That would be a good idea, actually.

I could understand like a bubble jacket that was stuffed with tons of down feathers or something. But like a regular bulky winter coat I do not think could be compressed enough to leave room for the child to be flung out. I'd like to see an actual lab video and not the mom youtube strap videos.

They should've waited to show it to you!
Maybe a video should be played before discharge. Or like I said, someone coming in to show you and explain seat safety to you instead of a video right before you're being discharged so they see you putting baby in the seat the right way before you leave.
