Yeast Infection??

posted 7th Dec
I've only ever had one yeast infection in my entire life and it was like...Jesus...seven years ago...   Anyway, I think I have a yeast infection. I'm really itchy and also I've noticed a slight change in my discharge. I did change soaps recently, so it could be that, but I didn't use the new soap this morning and I've still been itchy all day and still having discharge, so anyway, I think it's the start of a yeast infection.

Anyway, my question is, I have this generic Monistat cream (miconazole or something), so I'm wondering if I just put that on will it take care of it or do I need the suppository things to actually put up in there? It's certainly not bad at all (yet...) so I'm hoping I can catch it in time. Will just the cream work? Anyone know?

I'd try the cream but to be safe I'd use the suppositories. The cream is just for symptoms right? I think the suppositories would treat the actual infection.Idk..

Call your doc and ask for them to give you something! While on antibiotics for an ear infection I had one and man it was the worst. They called me in this stuff to make sure it went away fast and it was great; it was a 3 day treatment and it was pretty much gone except for some swelling in about 30 hours or so!

Yeah I think the cream is just to help the itching now that you say that. I'll have to get a kit.

Like I said, it's certainly not bad at all, but I don't want to wait and get some kind of raging infection... I very, very rarely have any kind of vaginal problems so this is all new to me. LOL

The cream will help with itching but I suggest you use the thing that goes inside too you can do the 3 day since its not that bad.

The cream won't help cure it as its meant to go outside of the vagina just to relieve the symptoms. I have bad reactions to the internal creams so last time I had a yeast infection caused by antibiotics I drank probiotic juice and it went away. My doc suggested eating whole natural non-sugar yogurts but I'm lactose intolerant so this juice was perfect for me

So I just read it and the cream is the stuff you would fill the suppository stick with and put up in there. It's the medicated stuff, not just the external cream. It says it's mean for vaginal and external use and it says it cures most yeast infections, so I think it'll work, but if it doesn't I'll get suppositories.

Thank you for your help ladies

You don't need either.
Get plain yogurt (not vanilla, make sure it is PLAIN), dip it in a tampon and stick it up there...do this for like a day or 2 and it will go away. It sounds weird but I've had to do that before and it works really well and is much cheaper than buying Monistat or going to the doctor.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Once it's up there you don't even notice it.

I'm sure it's a yeast infection. I have no urinary symptoms so I know it's not a UTI and no odor so I know it's not BV or some other vaginal infection and I know I don't have an STD, plus I have all the classic symptoms of a yeast infection. I think I know how/why I got it too, so I know that's what it is.

Seriously? In had my first one ever and self diagnosed and treated while pregnant and my doc found out 4 days later at my appointment. He didn't do a swab or anything, just a couple questions about symptoms, made sure i got the 7 day treatment (recommended for pregnant women) just said "okay, call me if it doesn't clear completely and I'll call you in a script because it may be hard to get rid of with your medications" done deal.

You don't need to see a doc or take prescription meds (especially oral meds) unless you don't know for sure it's a yeast infection.

And yeast infections are obvious and very different from other vaginal infections.
