idk what to do!

posted 7th Dec
Idk what to do! My son keeps screaming! I've been feeding him every hour since 11, its now 2am. I keep switching breasts and he sucks then stops, and then a couple min later he screams. (According to the book he'll stop when he's done) My bf doesn't think he's getting anything. Cause he won't stop crying and I keep trying to feed him.

I've been having issues with him wanting to feed. Then earlier tonight he was feeding. Now he won't stop screaming and idk what to do! (He's 2 days old, I had him Monday at 7:54pm)

Is he latching properly? Are you producing breast milk? Have you tried to pump at all. I had a friend who's son would drink for hours on end and not get anything she had to switch to formula.

I think so, no, I don't have all the pieces for the pump that I have. I need new tubes.

I'm thinking of trying the formula that I have.

I'd give him a bottle to calm him down for now. xx

He needs food hunny. Formula. Give him a bottle. If your milk hasn't come in, he's not getting anything out, so he's straining and straining and not getting fed. You need to make him a bottle. In the morning contact your Ob/Gyn to see if you can have a lactation consultant come out to your house.

This. I rang them and they came to help me that same day.   x

1 scoop equals 2 oz. Add the water FIRST then the scoop of formula. 1 scoop/2 oz will probably do just fine. Do not microwave the bottle with the formula already mixed. Use either luke warm tap water (if you feel comfortable feeding from the tap) or microwave JUST the water, then add the formula. Be sure to shake the bottle and test the temperature before feeding if you decide to microwave the water.

He is only 2 days old, he doesn't know how to nurse, you have to give him and yourself time to learn.

You don't have milk as of now, but you have something much much better-colostrum is all he needs. Get in touch with a lactation consultant-either the hospital or the pedi office will have one. They will come and help you with positioning him correctly.

Calm yourself down and change his diaper, burp him, go into a dark room and try to nurse-he might just be overtired-normally 2 days old babies sleep, eat and poop.

Check his diapers, if he gets WET ones every couple of hours, he is getting plenty. Poop doesn't matter, breastfed babies dont need to poop every day-breastmilk is absorbed almost 100%.

If you give him a bottle now, your body will not know to make milk and baby will see how easy the bottle nipple releases milk and will not possibly want to nurse later

Good luck!

Giving a baby a bottle will not stop your body from producing milk.

If you continue to bottle feed and not allow the baby to nurse at all or don't pump to stimulate production then yes, it can inhibit flow, but giving the baby a bottle tonight will not stop her body from producing milk.

i was JUST going to say the same thing.

and Dexter was Breast and Bottle for a few weeks. and drinking from a bottle didn't stop him from wanting to nurse at all. x
